Going away for 6 months whats the best way to lay up tvr, it's staying in a well ventilated garage or is it worth getting one of those cocoon things.

I faced a similar issue a few years ago. I ended up putting it in storage neat gatwick, in a nice place, and they even took the car out for a little run every few weeks. The company was called Skater motorsport and I would highly recommend them. http://www.skatermotorsport.co.uk/service_car_stor.... I did the maths of buying all the gear and trying to make a good job of it and to be honest this worked out about the same and I would prefer the car at least had a run rather than sitting idle.

In the States we often store cars for the winter.
Stabil (fuel stabeliser) in the tank, take for a run.
Change oil.
Remove battery and put on batt maintainer.
Extra air in the tyres.
Park car on four carpet squares.
Dehumidity crystals (damp rid) for the inside.
Beathable cover.
Unheated garage not considered a problem.(less moisture)

I don't do all of this, but some dosmile

There is some advice here on a thread from a while ago.. I wouldn't go to the expense of one of those cocoons just for a six month period though. As long as the garage is well ventilated it should be ok. smile

I use Classic Car Storage near Petersfield.
about £20 a week gets you storage in a huge converted barn with air-conditioning, cloth cover, battery conditioning, weekly checks, monthly startup to operating temperature and a resident mechanic who I think has worked on just about anything on four wheels. There are some VERY interesting silhouettes under the covers.
.. and very nice people too.
I would strongly recommend them.

That does sound the best i live abroad and not back for long periods and luckily have a brother who loves TVR's so in his garage and he runs it every sunny day possible and keeps it charged otherwise I would leave it with a company like that as well. Of all the cars i have owned I feel the TVR is one that needs reguler running?

Fill the fuel tank to the brim, get it good and hot on the last run before you pay it up, either fit a battery conditioner or isolate the battery. Nothing else special needs doing for just a few months.
