CHIMAERA ROOF

ON SUNDAY WHILE CLEANING MY CHIMAERA,I TRIPPED UP AND PUT MY HAND THROUGH REAR WINDOW.(I KNOW,WHAT A PRATT ).NEED TO GET ROOF OFF,HAS ANYONE DONE THIS BEFORE?.

There's been a few people who've had the rear window replaced. Search this forum for a suitable thread. Price in the region of £150 if I remember.

it fairly straight forward to get the roof of, basically just undo all the bolts and screws you can see, you'll need to remove the trim panel in the boot to get at some of the nuts. the only pain is that you will probably need to cut the wires for the interior light as the plugs in the end are too big to come out through the whole in the body.

Check your Insurance policy, some people on the S forum have had their REAR screens replaced on Insurance with only £60 excess to pay.

I was one of those people. My replacement screen was covered on my windscreen policy with N.U. Direct so only the £60 excess and no impact on my NCD.

I got the job done in Reading (no good for you I guess); dropped the car off one lunchtime and picked it up the next. It cost £250 plus VAT, but I gather it should be possible to get it done cheaper (if you can find somewhere).

If your insurance will cover it, this would definitely seem like a preferable course of action to doing it yourself.

NO

The plug comes apart then you pull the individual wires out, no need to cut them

my rear screen needed to be replaced and my insurance covered it as it counts as the rear windsceen.

Hello all, I went to see Andy, at AJ Trimming, in Borne End, who did a fantastic job on a new green mohair roof, and thicker rear screen, and a bigger edge rail to stop water ingress (Not that I take it out in the wet). Mail me for more pictures if you want.

• I did however cut my wires like a muppet, and still havent wired them back in, job for Sunday

Thanks for your help everyone.Managed to get it off
myself yesterday and is currently being stitched.Why is
it always the last screw/bolt that you get to that is
seized solid and rounded off. 1 hour and lots of drilling later ,sorted .
