Hi,

It's about time to replace the old Pioneer Head unit in the Chimaera with something more upto date (it's 10 years old now), mainly just so I am able to connect an iPOD, without the need of extra leads etc...

My budget is around £200-£250 and I want to stick with Pioneer. I've got a 6CD Changer in the boot, and I want to retain the use of that too (although it will be largely redundant I admit).

1) Does anyone have any recommendations as to a particular unit and where to get it.

2) I'd want it fitted (happy to pay if necessary) as I have no interest in doing myself, never done it before and don't want to start now, so if anyone knows anyone good (pref with TVR experience) in or around Birmingham, that would be ace...

Please don't say Halfords, as I've tried and its never less than a painful experience lol...

Cheers in advance smile

I bought this a few months ago http://www.soundcar.co.uk/product/DEH-P7000UB , it's pretty good and has everything you would need including hands free which is a bit pointless in a TVR!

I would imagine it would be plug and play, when i fiited mine to my T350 it was a straight swap but it all depends on the age of your old stereo, it only takes 2 minutes to find out though.

Why would you want to spend £250 to drown out the glorious note of your 500 V8

Me too!

I connected up the long USB lead to the back of the unit and threaded it behind the dash, out by the steering wheel and onto the console in front of the gear leaver. I have a USB stick with MP3s on it which the Pioneer is very happy to play.

The only thing I don't like is that the Pioneer's clock does not sync to the RDS clock signal so it's always a bit off. Not usually a big problem except when entering the London congestion zone at 5:59PM!

James,
If you're old one is going spare I'd be interested. Some toerag broke into the Griff and stole the front of Mrs FFG's over Xmas.
It is a single CD head unit where the front flaps down, hinged on the right (from memory). We're in Redditch.

Picked up a second hand DEH-P77MP (the former top bko model except for the PRS range) for 85 euro, a few months ago. biggrin Highly recommended - simple, classy, very high quality tuner, D/A converters/filters and MOSFET amp (as usual with Pioneer).

Hey FlipFlopGriff,

I'm sure after I get round to sorting this out the old one will be going spare, but it is rather old (it was fitted when the car was new) so it actually has a cassette slot, no CD slot, hence the CD changer.

So maybe not much good to you smile

I may have one of these. I'll see if I can get a photo of it posted.

I have exactly the same in the Cerb, it's a nice bit of kit, although I only figured out on Sunday how to access the tuner after 7 months laugh
