Where have all the M's gone???

I know of a local guy who has a Taymar Turbo (widebody SE) in his garage ... its been stationary for the last 13 years, not started, still with new tyres on it.
he never uses it, and believes it to be worth about £13 - 15,000. I offered him £5000 for it and he laughed ... thing is, its gonna need about £5000 worth of rubbers replacing, turbo is probably gone, engine might even be siezed.

I do wonder how to attract more M, Vixen and Grantura to Hants TVRCC meetings. Often my S is the oldest TVR in the car park. Sometimes an M comes, sees all the newer cars and disappears.
I have thought that Model Sections might help, but the committee are worried that they may become factions and split the club. I'd counter it's already happening - S Club Heaven, and the Basingstoke Big Bad Wedge Pie and Pint.
I also thought model of the month might work, but I'd like to know at least two could turn up!
Ideas welcome, and buying another TVR is not an option!

Not unless he's aged about 30 years .. the last time I saw Vasco he didnt look as old as this chap does

I know that some owners of older cars are intimidated by joining a line of new £40K+ Tuscans/Tamoras/Tescos etc. It's perfectly understandable. Not only is there such a value difference, but the types of people can be different too. I met exactly this before with the Bentley Drivers Club, where the type of person who restores a pre-war Bentley from scratch has little in common with a 25-year-old dot com milllionaire in his Turbo R. I know the TVRCC is not that extreme but the symptom is the same.
My view is that anything with a TVR badge is fine by me. I don't care how old it is or how much it's worth. But it's easy to see how some people can intimidated - I've heard it said 'I'll only go in my (M) if there will be other (M)s there.' The RO is the person who can make the difference, make sure they get a warm welcome, some genuine interest and plenty of attention. It's too easy to stay chatting with your mates and ignore the newcomers. And once ignored, they don't come back.

the usual Chimaeras and Griffiths, a Cerb and a Tamora) some come and go, but many become regulars and I can honestly say that they are all most certainly welcomed by everyone in the group without any hint of a suggestion of 'mine's better than yours'. This is how it should be, it is, after all, the TVR Car Club.

I tried to get a few pre 80's down to the kent meet recently. Only 2 others turned up, and they were both friends of mine who I asked to come down- we didn't need any other TVR's for that.
It was OK to meet other TVR owners and the Kent lot were a nice enough bunch, but we haven't been back.
The most pertinent points have been made already
-there are not enough pre 80's around to just turn up and find a whole stack of them there
- people are intimidated by all the moderns. Dispite the friendlyness of alot of other TVR owners this "you have an entry level TVR and aspire to own a tusan/chimaera etc. like me" attitude does exist or maybe it just comes across that way
- seen leaving the afore mentioned Kent meet- a Vixen who legged it when he saw there were no other oldies there.
- seen leaving another regional meet, a guy in a 3000M who turned up, was ignored, hung around for a bit, then left and never came back.
- People who have older TVR's are interested in differnt things that people who have modern TVRs. Of course thats not always the case and it is not wrong to have different interests, but it is a valid point which explains the dearth of classics.

How about oldest car there gets free food/drink/trophy, something along those lines.
By the time I manage to get to a Hants meet I'll probably qualify in my 1996 Chimaera!

But I found saying one has a Griff 500SE outside rather shoots one's argument in the foot!
So do we need another "Lilley Mania" to get cars back on the road and out?
