Just been quoted £30 each to have some discs skimmed which seems very steep to me.
Anyone had theirs done recently and how much did you pay and where/who done them.

TIA

Just rub them over with some emery paper and then do a series of 'enthusiastic' stops as if you were bedding them. Let them cool on the move.

It'll either work or it won't biggrin

£30 each seems about right, considering that we charge £35 /hr for production machining. I/2 offs are not cost effective due to machine setup etc and clocking the job to ensure the jobs right.

I'd be more inclined to remove them and rub over with some scotch brite, then solvent. Maybe a quick rub over the pads too. Machining seems very drastic measure to me as they dont look that bad a condition from your pictures.

yeah may try a clean first. The picture is when they are new. The reason for doing it is i have some brake judder on heavy braking. Pads look ok but disc have a fair amount of pad marks etc which may/may not be the cause.
I know in my motorbike days I used to use a brake disc cleaner that can help..even heard of people putting them in the dish washer yikes

Cutting a disc is to true it up, not just make the surface shiney.
It's possible you a have a little warping from excessive heat (naughty boysmile)

I'm in the US so the price here is different (cheaper) but that seems expensive for a non driven wheel.

I had exactly the same thing recently- car was sitting for a while which led to paw marks on the disc from the pad.

I paid £40 for the pair of discs to get skimmed in a very bust Aberdeen fab shop.

N.B- when you get them done, make sure you ask for both sides to be done symultaneously (ie with a left hand bit and a right hand bit at the same time).
