Had the car on the R/R last week before the Torqueflow mod but had a couple of faults one the stepper motor had jammed and the pipe to the air filter had collapsed (now fixed)so never got a true reading but it went to 245.00 at the fly.
I allready had shortend trumpets and a plemum spacer on but no other mods.
Had the Torqueflow mod done last Monday on my 450 Chim took it to Surrey Rolling Road again yesterday and now getting 293.5 at the fly 234.2 at the wheels cant say enough about Eann nothing too much trouble he has set up the car and it's now spot on.

Were both readings fromm the same rolling road? How much different does it feel? Does it feel 40bhp stronger? Very interested in this mod myself at the mo. scratchchin

Yes same rolling Road. Feels like a diferent car lots more under the right foot it's now so much more responsive and very very fast clap

Probably worth noting that this is the highest N/A 450 I've ever done from memory.

Really very impressed yes

High praise indeed from a man who really knows his stuff.

Was very impressed with the setup at the rolling road (took my wedge down last week when the chim was on first time round).

Was also very pleased to see I still have 139.3bhp left in the (280i) wedge after 28 years, and could get a few more back if I sort out a minor fueling problem that the rolling road showed up.

A very useful diagnostic tool indeed. Well worth every penny IMHO.

Hi Roy
I'm interested to know if your Chim is running with it's pre-cats and cats in place? Eann fitted his Torqueflow system to my Griff 500 last September. Prior to fitting at the Growl it went on Crazyhorses dyno and made 281bhp and 245 torque. Then after fitting when back on the same dyno and made 278 bhp and 238 torque. My car already has SC Power's plenum spacer and trumpets, with ACT smooth bore induction and K&N filter but has both cats still in place.
Eann had a lot of trouble getting my car to idle with his mods and it took several different specially modded AFM to get it how it is now - which is reasonable at idle but prone to occasional cutting out.
I do have to say that the power is produced for longer through the rev range and the torque curve is a thing of beauty! It drives very smoothly apart from the ongoing idle issue.
Eann really tried his best but could only conclude that the cats were restricting any extra power!

Hi
All cats are still in place.

My Wedge 400SE ( fitted with Chim 400 motor with 218 cam, and no cats of course) recently made 194.5 at the wheels and 251lbs torque...just for comparison. No other mods apart from adjustable fuel regulator.

That was at Motoscope, Northallerton.

I'm considering the Torqueflow system. scratchchin

So am i Graham.
Ive made a few tweeks to my nitrous system and it 'felt' very impressive on Sunday going to Chatsworth.
Looking forward to testing it properly at York this weekend then i will be off to see what more Eann can do for me.

Dont worry Graham you will do well in 'D' class.
Im getting in with the big boys in the main pits.
Entering the 'Hot Rod Challenge' and 'Sportsman ET'
At least this way we can get to watch each other run.

Hmm Eann is a nice fella but was dissapointed he wanted £200 to repair my torque flow AFM it had only done 3000 miles

I dont like the sound of that!
Was that 3000 miles within 12 months? A years guarentee would be expected IMO.

This is why there is a no naming and shaming policy as we don't know the details of why he wanted to charge £200 ..... can you enlighten us Meatball?

Dont get me wrong this is not a name and shame as Eann has done nothing wrong in fact i found him very helpful, im just putting my point across that i was disapointed he wanted so much to repair it. The torque flow afm clearly works my 450 chim made 305 bhp with this included in my set up (i only brought the AFM and chip). I brought the afm approx 2 years ago and maybe i was a little conservative with my milage claim but it was certainley no more than 4000 miles Im sure with all new products you are bound to have a few problems.
I hope that clears that up

That seems fair enough and we dont know the 'extent' of the repairs or how it failed.
305 bhp from a 450 is outstanding! What other mods do you have meatball?

Maybe a silly question due to lack of understanding on my part, but if you have the TorqueFlow AFM fitted there is mention of having a new chip too, I assume that means you have to take a new engine management chip that works with the new AFM?

If thats the case, what about cars that have already got newer or upgraded management chip fitted i.e. a Chim/Griff Taraka. What happens then as you wouldn't want to replace the current chip...?

You will have to change the ECU chip, I was discussing this with Eann at Chatsworth. My car has had all the induction stuff done along with some TVR Power work and a Mark Adams chip. I'm going to go over to Eann's sometime over the summer and he's going to add his AFM and chip and we'll see what the difference is....

Hey Dave
wonder if Eann will give us a discount if we get our cars done on the same day and help with the labour side of things? My budgets been blown good and proper so i need to save some pennies.

Ive had a look at Meatballs unit that was causing problems. The unit is basically standard AFM electronics and sensor put in a much larger housing. The hot wire now sits in the main airflow in place of the side port on the normal AFM, so the airflow / cooling charateristics are somewhat different and the internal electronics have been tweeked to get near the output of the standard AFM for any given airflow. Its not possible to get a 100% match this way, but with carefull voltage adjustments it should be near enough to get the full scale fueling in line, and then let the ECU's fuel trimming system take care of it below 3400 rpm. In Meatballs case the voltage output for the airflow at tickover is too high, and this is the point the ECU sets the long term trim value for the mixture, so a wrong value here makes it much harder or impossible for the ECU to keep the fuel in line with short term fuel trim, once the base value (long term) is set. It may well be possible to re tweek the electronics to compensate for this change. I did also notice some fluctuations in output voltages at around 4 volts (This would be nearing full throttle) and I think this could be due to turbulance around the post the hot wire is mounted on in the main airflow, but I dont know if this was enough to cause the fueling to change. Ideally a full rechip could compensate for the altered charateristics, but as we know MA is the only one who can do this effectively. Otherwise you are down to using fuel maps that are already available, and tweeking the analogue electronics to compensate.
