Brands Hatch track day - video

Don't know if anyone is interested but I took my Chimaera to Brands Hatch for an easytrack day...
To say I enjoyed myself would be an understatement! I now just need new tyres, new brakes, adjustable suspension, better seats and a harness... maybe a touch more power... oh, and probably a new bank manager if he saw this!

The in-car footage was taken with a suction mount for the camcorder which seemed to work very well (see www.b-hague.co.uk for the mounts)...

Fantastic stuff.......takes me back to last summer in my old Lotus. I can't wait to get the Griff out there this summer (and judging by today's weather it WILL be the summer!). One thing - did the marshalls let you out on the track with the camera and was it OK because it was suction mounted (or did you hide it)? My passenger had my camcorder at Brands and they wouldn't let us out on the track with it as it was deemed "dangerous". I guess it was because it was hand held?
Afraid the wagging tail moments were carefully avoided... I felt that the run off areas at Paddock (gravel - seen a Lotus Carlton roll in it), Druids (tyre wall) and Clearways (tyre wall again) were all a bit too close to the track to push too hard... Also, it was the first time I've taken the car on the track...
I didn't manage to capture the moment entering Paddock on a slowing down lap (!!!) where I lost concentration, lifted the clutch too quickly and locked up the rears!! (Time to change underwear!)
I think I'll start to explore oversteer at airfield days where I can spin off to my hearts content...
The camera was attached using the suction mount and the marshall who inspected it was very impressed! He reckoned the window would break/shatter before the mount fell off! I think I was the only person out on track allowed to use video.
I bought a DV camera last year so I can use the Firewire connection and upload video directly onto my PC. The firewire card (about £50) came with some basic video editing software (MGI Videowave 3) which I use as it's quick and easy.
The easytrack forum has had a long chat on camcorders, mounts and also using bullet cameras attached to various points of the car for some interesting shots!

Pick your airfield day carefully then: the couple that I've been on frown of people who do that too often. I managed to restrict myself to one "how many times round?" spin, plus a couple of "moments"...
Much fun, but I need to find somewhere to be a total hooligan and really get a feel for the car...

If that's what you want then I have got to recommend Bruntingthorpe with International drivers Club because they actively encourage you to get the back out and lose it
. This forms part of their teaching methods in learning to control oversteer although it is of course a 1 to 1 intensive training session which maybe not what you are looking for. Drop me an e mail if you want detail and contact numbers.
How's life without the BM?

You might as well post the info here as it's certain not to be just me who's interested in that sort of tuition.
Life without the BM is just fine... less outgoings, the taxman is happy(er) and I no longer have to feel bad about taking the TVR and racking the miles up. Looks like work-related travel isn't going to be so frequent now anyway, so I guess it's all good.
And hell, the bass amp fits in the boot, my weekend bag goes behind the seats and the bass guitar itself goes in the passenger footwell. And that's all the room I need... Mind you, even in a five litre, the bass amp isn't heavy enough to quell the wheelspin (despite being heavy enough to put my back out), and punts me towards a 911-of-old weight distribution scenario.

What problem are you having downloading the vid?
I popped out for a bit on Friday (it's only down the road and I've a few clients there) as 2 friends were having "an experience" in 2 knackered XR2's they bought for a few hundred quid to trackday to death without risking their pride and joys, so I would have been keen to see who else was on the vid.
As for the probs its firewall at work and a dial up connection at home does it.
