Has anyone put a different engine in a TVR, replacing a Rover V8? If so, I'd love to hear from you.

PM in the first instance is the best way for me.

Thank you.

Why do people look upon the old disregarded Buick engine as an original TVR Engine?

TVR's have only ever had 2 original engines: The AJP and Sp6

All other engines are non original and borrowed from other production cars.

The following engines have been used:

E93 ford sidevalve engine
Coventry Climax engine
MGA 1600
MGB 1800
S/B Ford V8
1600 GT crossflow
1600 711M crossflow
3.0 OHV Essex
1.3 OHV Triumph 4 cyl
2.5 OHV Triumph 6 cyl
2.0 OHC Pinto ford
2.8 OHV Cologne
2.9 OHV Cologne
3.5 , 3.9 , 4.0 , 4.3 , 4.5 , 5.0 OHV Buick design Rover lump

Lotus Twin cam to a couple of special order cars.

All very original??

I think this choice makes up about 75% of the UK car market throughout the 70's so really no need to retro fit anything else

N.

The common retro swaps of none of the above I know of are:

Zetec
Duratec
XE redtop
Nissan R20DE
Chevy from the heavy 350 to the modern LS range
Honda S2000
Audi TDi motor

Doubtless someone else somewhere will have fitted something else because it was cheap and available

IE a volvo 1800 OHV engine in sweden for instance which made a nice conversion in an 1800S

Neil,

Only 2 original engines? Seems to be a harsh criticism to me. Morgan, Bristol, Lotus and Ginetta, the only other English producers of limited production sports or sporting cars have only ever had no original engines. The Bristol 2-litre (and 2.2) were of BMW design and were inherited as part of the post-war reperations.

I stand by my words derek.

TVR have only Made 2 Original engines. the rest were bought in.

I have also listed original "Fitment" engines fitted to specific models (IE originally bought from another manufacturer)

and then Non original Fitment engines

This could have been an interesting thread if it hadn't been turned into a bloody argument.

Thats like arguing that TVR was a copy of Benz because TVR copied the 4 wheel layout. An identical block doesnt make it the same engine

To be accurate... not a new company but just an addition to the product range based on the LS conversion I did for my own Cerbera in 2007.
Currently working on Cerbera AJPV8, Cerbera Speed Six and will be starting a T350 later this year. Basically anything with a AJP or SP6 engine.
Currently using the 6 litre L98 (Ls2 with LS3 heads) but providing the engine is one of the all ally LS series, it will fit.

The car will be at the PPC in the Park event next weekend if anyone is interested.

Sorry Guys.
wasn't being intentionally argumentative but stating facts.

The Rover V8 in a lot of peoples minds is the original TVR engine. to me it is an original rover engine. It irks me a little when a lot of people only consider the Rover V8 as a TVR engine Proper when in fact the Original V8 for TVR was the small block V8.

as a straight forward "What has been fitted to TVr's" i have printed a list.

the only other engine I can think of is the 24v Cosworth V6 but in reality that is just a 2.9 V6 derivative.

My post in no way puts down the relative merits of any of the engines.

The reality today is that even the big manufacturers farm out engine design to small companies.

by original I mean manufactured in house for their own model range.
