Hi all,

Not normally one to gripe on PH about things but felt i had to share this as it's hacked me off in a big way..

Filled up with V-Power this afternoon. Paid the cashier, went back to my car, and started her up. All of a sudden i heard a voice shouting, 'F'in anti-social that f'in car is'. Looked to my left and there was a chap, around 60 ish, sat in a Toyota Land Cruiser, looking straight at the car. I thought it was quite amusing at first and expected the guy to break a smile but he then carried on ranting about how anti-social the car was. I started to drive off and gave him a smile as i still thought he was joking. Both him and his wife then flicked the v's at me with both hands, so i stopped and jumped out of the car to let him explain to me why he was getting involved in my day-to-day business after i'd done nothing wrong by him. Conversation went like this between him, her and myself....

Me-'Sorry, have i offended you in some way?'
Him-'F'in anti-social w**ker, f'in anti-social car'
Me-'Thanks for the feedback. This car is my pride and joy, who the f*ck do you think you are?'
Him-'It's f'in anti-social'
Me-'Based on what? I worked hard to get it, who the hell are you to spoil MY day and the enjoyment of MY car?.'
Him-'The noise, f'in too loud, looks sh*t an' all. It's f'in stupid and anti-social'
Me-'Ok, thanks for that d*ckhead. Goodbye.
Her-'He's not as much as an d*ckhead as you are. Tw*t'

At this point she leaned out of the window and shouted- 'You know what they say don't you.... Big car, small c*ck'. I just laughed it off and drove away with her giving the v's in my rear view mirror, i didn't see the point of getting further involved and winding myself up even more. Most of the people in the station thought it was hilarious and one even stopped me at the lights to comment on how ridiculous they were, but it still p*ssed me off in a big way.

I realise i probably shouldn't have risen to his bait but there was no reasoning with the guy. I was proper fuming and it was difficult not to completely lose the plot and get fighty with him.

I've had TVR's for 4 years now and this is the first bit of abuse i've had. I'd expect it from younger people but not a 60 year-old couple.. The car runs carbon cans and is de-catted, so admittedly it's fairly shouty, but usually attracts admiring glances and comments, not mindless abuse.

Has anyone else taken this kind of cr*p for doing absolutely nothing out of the ordinary?

Cheers, James

You could have said how their car was an environment destroyer and they were Earth-haters or something. You know the usual anti-4x4 stuff.

And you should have replied, "Is that why he drives a 4x4?" after her small cock comment. Or is this the mini Landcruiser that's smaller than a 2 seater sports car.

Don't you feel you missed an opportunity to question his anti-social activities as he was driving a Land Cruiser? I mean I wonder asking how many times he's been off road in his 'Chelsea Taxi' as a starting point? Then adding the fuel consumption, his carbon footprint, the fact he bought Japanese etc etc

With hindsight there are lots of things i'd have loved to have said to him, the old grey matter just wasn't quick enough on the spur of the moment..

Should have let out a proper howling belly laugh and told him at least you didn't have an ugly old piece of st. Wait a second then follow it up with "No, I meant your wife, your car's even f'kin worse"...

I know, not easy to think on the fly when you aren't expecting it...

Jealousy knows no bounds. It crosses all colours, creeds, beliefs, religions and social standing. It's like a cancer that courses through an individual (and those associated with it) like an unstoppable and incurable disease. When faced with it, resist the temptation to attack. You will not win as you don't hold those beliefs, and therefore understand it's hatred of you and what you own (and "it" doesn't). You cannot fight on it's level, and you will not/cannot ever defeat it by normal communacative means. Like an alpha male, it wants you to show resistance especially in front of it's mate, who also will defend it without logical thinking. If you looked close enough, both individuals probably had redesigned steering and child locks....their knuckles will surely have been dragging in the shagpile. Unfortunately, age rarely subdues it. Forget it, and enjoy your car. Difficult, I know!

You drove home in your TVR. He drove home in his old shed.

Who's the w nker?

He wishes he was you. End of.

Bloke in a white van with a fat ugly wife and fat ugly kids pointed at me a few weeks back at the lights and shouted "sh t car...."

Pointed back as I blew away from the lights "sh t life"

Losers.

I had the same, very recently. I know exactly how you feel!

Friday 12th June
Started my 5 litre RV8 up in Waitrose underground car park this afternoon in Cheltenham, no throttle blipping, just pressed the button and a clean start. My cockpit routine is to always do a quick scan to ensure no virgins in white dresses are within spitting distance of the exhausts.

After starting, I glanced right and caught site of a lady of advancing years shaking her head side to side. I beckoned her "with an after you" before I reversed out of the parking space, though she came up to the driver's door and said "your EXENGINE(?)is antisocial". Not wishing to argue the finer points of TVRs, the Great War and how her Volkswagen and her late husband's Audi Estate was so wonderfully quiet and the strict distinctions between engines and exhausts I replied "I'm sorry", letting her still pass behind me (without her thanks to note), maybe I shouldn't have hesitated and lessened the burden on the NHS and my taxes.

On driving away I thought: was this a back handed compliment (to me it was, grinning) to her it wasn't intended to be, then I thought:

Just theorectically, tables turned supposing she let me pass without I thanking her and I stopped her to discuss her vulgar shopping trolley, how it lowered the tone of the place and was she considering the government's scrappage scheme for her trolly and human power unit, she would be calling the police, no doubt!

Driving on I saw a blue Tuscan parked up from Cheltenham Ladies College and driving through Tewkesbury later, a white van man gave the "TVR nice car mate" thumbs up after flashing him out of the M5 junction. My faith was restored immediately.

Next time I see her I want to see a Pistonheads sticker on her trolley! Or else I vote compulsory euthanasia for ugly ones as a start.

What would you have done?

Completely off the point but keeping in with PH tradition,i have a friend in Belfast who is never one to let anyone get the better of him in a verbal set to.a couple of years back he was sitting in a restaurant with his girlfriend and lit up a cigarette. The Couple on the next door table asked him to put it out and caused such a fuss to the point where the restaurant owner asked Tim would he mind moving table to keep the peace and gave them a drink on the house to apologise.
On leaving the restaurant the guy stared up again so Tim walked over and said the following"you may have found my smoking offensive and had the bad manners to ask me to put my cigarette out, personally i find your wife offensive but i didn't have the bad manners to ask to have her put her out" and walked out the door.
Change a few words and it recomes a handy retort.

Thanks for the comments everyone, nice to know i'm not alone....

What strikes me is how bitter some people are. We go through enough hardship in life without d*cks like this trying to destroy our pleasure. If someone meets me and doesn't like me then that's fair enough, but when they take a scunner to me without spending 1 second in my company....

Feel better now, cheers people

This is so bad, I've never had a bad word about my car, yet alone such verbal abuse and swearing from somebody who should know better, much better! I would have just got out the station and roared off!

Utter knobs around nowadays, what's more antisocial? A (tastefully) loud car or unprovoked foul language and abuse from somebody old enough to be mature about it, even if they did find it annoying.

Your mate sounds like an ignoramus to be honest.

He smokes, and the residue of his pleasure stinks and gets on other people's clothes and hair. Why should non smokers have to breathe that filth just because he wants a fag between courses (class....)

I don't smoke, but I do like a drink. The residue of my pleasure is urine.

If your mate had started with me, I'd have been tempted to get up and pi55 all over his girlfriend.

hehe

From living round the corner from James and the fact that I nip outside everytime I hear it driving off ears I think we know who was in the right!

If you do see them again then gimme a bell and we can block them into a TVR sandwich!

Cheers Dave

8 more cylinders would have been handy today.... idea In fact, bring Pug into the equation and the Forester and we could have played him a pretty good tune worthy of an ASBO!
