laptop to ecu connection

can u use a vista laptop to connect to the ecu?

im using a vista laptop, with a usb serial adaptor but cant talk to the car, the serial is set to COMS1 and iv changed the bit rate to 9600.

any suggestions or do i have to get an XP laptop?

What ECU are you trying to connect to? And with what software on the laptop?

its a 51 tuscan, and im using the software from mytuscan.co.uk il have a look and see what ecu i have today.
