Cerb + kids..... am I being completely mad?

Just how rediculous am I being....
I owned a Chimaera a couple of years ago but due to a change in circumstances had to sell up. Now I am looking to return to the fold but this time I need more than just two front seats. Yes space is needed in the back for the new little man. So a Cerb it is then?
My other half does have a sensible family car, so the Cerb wouldn't be used for the nursery run all the time, but there would be occasions when it would. I'd love to hear from other dads (or mums) that do use the back seats in terms of how practical or unpractical they are!
The other option is to keep my current Audi A4 shed and get a 2 seater weekend toy??

Myself and several other PHers have Cerbs and kids (2+2 was how I sold the idea in the first place to Mrs FUBAR)
How old is your son? Recarro Start seems to be the best fit for the rear seats, although still not perfect. Mine are 5 & 7 now and I run them without a seat, although today I have just bought the smallest booster I could find in Halfords (to use in our holiday hore car as it happens) and am hoping it will fit on the Cerb.
Funny thing with kids and Cerbs, my son always falls asleep in the back. Must be that soothing engine note
If we go out as a family at the weekend, they scream blue murder if we dont take 'the yellow car'. They absolutely love it! (strangely enough, so do I)
And as you have a backup 'family' car, I cant think of a good reason for you not to get one.
As they say "do it, do it, do it, doooo iiiiit"
ETA: A Cerb also makes the MILFs at the nursery go weak at the knees

I have a 15 month old boy who goes in the back of the Cerb every so often, i have the original child seat supplied with the car, it's ok i suppose but doesn't feel that safe to me, the seat seems to move arond a bit.
My boy loves the car though, he just goes to sleep after a couple of miles, i just have to make sure i keep myself in check, and remember i'm carrying a small child so hooning is forbidden.

I have had the Cerb for nearly five years now, and I have two boys now aged six and nine.
They consider it an iconic experience growing up with a car like this, and we have had enormous fun with it a s a family. Weekends away and trips to see family and friends have gone from mundance trundling in the family wagon to real adventures.
As long as you have a sensible car, you have only fun ahead of you - DO IT!
PS My eldest is almost too big to go in the back now, so I guess it will revert to a toy again soon...

I have two sons now 23 and 26 and we use it regularally (no wife) so one in the front with seat forward and one behind they love it. Went golfing with them both, so three of us three sets of clubs and two overnight bags?? very impressive get one and pm me if u are interested in a great one!!!!

How very understanding of your wife - my girlfriend won't even let me get a Swedish au pair - says something about us not having kids......Another thumbs up for the Cerb as a practical car for transporting nippers around in. Got a 3 year old little girl who loves going out in it 
use a Recaro Start at the moment but don't think it will be long before we can just use a booster seat. Haven't used it for the nursery run yet (as nursery is only 1/4 mile away) but I think come september, I'll give it a try! thanks for the tip Fubes

Interesting point that as I know some people do state that they drive differently with children on board. My daughter was brought up in the back of a 911 but I can't say I drove any differently when she was on board. I have two kids, the youngest can squeeze behind the drivers seat. He is a tall 7 almost 8 year old albeit I have to move the seat forward so it isnt great. As said it is more of a 2 + 1.
The Recaro start is really for kids bigger than 7 months so you might need to put your kid in the front in a normal car seat for a while until the Recaro start fits. But you might be ok.
I have had cerbs since my kids were babies and they are useable but arent practical by my definition.
The other thing is that you will feel a little exposed to the dangers of the road. A Cerb provides very little rear or side impact protection to your rear passengers (despite what anyone else will tell you).

Safety sells with cars. Especially to people with children and you want to ignore that? Why? How selfish.
Look at Euro NCAP. Look at a Metro. Would you put your children in that? I think your Cerbera would be worse especially in a side impact and in the rear. 5 star crash protection for all new family cars now. Cerbera would not get 2 stars. No child seats fit properly in the back. No ISOFIX. Head bashed around on the roll cage, front seat, windows. As somone else said - a rear impact does not bear thinking about. The petrol tank just behind your child's head.

to be honest you are being a bit harsh here mr Tuscan, i ve had quite an accident in a chim, hitting barriers at 3 digit speeds and crashing on all sides (wasnt driving btw). the fibreglass absorbed everything very well, didnt even get any significant seatbelt marks or whiplash, and the chassis didnt barge. I swear if i was in a normal car it would have rolled and shrunk to a matchbox. Im not saying that tvrs and cerbs are safer, but they would cope much better in an accident to a 10yr old saloon car, and especially the cerbs have very good side impact protection, and a full rollcage. if you carry kids and drive cautiously you should be safe
