Why are new shockers so crap....

I'm thinking of replacing the suspension on the Chim and am surprised about the amount of threads containing leaking, squeaking and generally what appears to be bloody awful quality after-market shocks. The bilsteins currently on the Chim are 10 yrs old now and still not leaking - how come we get so many reports of dodgy new ones...??? Even Nitrons need servicing every ?yrs apparently...

yes I realise that there are people who have had no problems, I'm hoping I will be end up being one of them, I was wondering why we read about so many people who have.....

The Bilsteins on my Mk2 Tuscan are squeeking with one weeping oil and only 3 years old.
30k miles isn't so much is it.

I've read of maybe half a dozen that leaked of a new brand/model. I believe the 'teething troubles' have been resolved for any new kit now so you shouldn't have any issues. Don't forget that for every gripe you see here there are another ten who are perfectly happy, but that isn't post-worthy.
