300 Miles on a tank of fuel!

Just been down to Newquay, Cornwall, in my 450 Chim, from Winchmore Hill, North London.
On the way down went the pretty way (Not M4 - M5) did 285 miles before i needed to fill up.
On the way back today i filledup in Newquay, arrived back in Winchmore Hill and still had enough fuel to take the wife shopping!
Car is on the drive showing 308 miles and still got fuel in the tank!
I'm chuffed!

One thing I discovered the other day about my 450 Chim; when the petrol gauge says "not quite empty - you've got a bit left", you are actually out. All because Tesco York were out of 98 octane AGAIN!!!!
My Chim does c23mpg unless I hammer it - then I don't want to contemplate the fuel consumption; you can actually SEE the sea level rising as global warming accelerates.

How do you guys do it? I thought I was getting around 25mpg until I did some accurate measuring!Here are my last 4 fill up results (from Torque cars site. http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator....
(Mpg 21.3) KM per Litre:7.56 Pence per mile:23.4
(Mpg 14.7) KM per Litre:5.21 Pence per mile:32.1
(Mpg 18.5) KM per Litre:6.56 Pence per mile:25.2
(Mpg 19.1) KM per Litre:6.78 Pence per mile:26.5
Has anyone got any tuning tips where I can increase my MPG in my 1999 400 Chimaera.
I do all the driving tricks for fuel saving (sometimes!
) and still get rubbish figures. I know TVRs are not economical in any way but another 25% fuel consumption ( an extra 5 MPG) would make a world of difference to my running costs. Some on this forum regularly claim high 20s. How?one thing I've noted for my '99 450 is that it's less sensitive to how fast you drive.
My daily commute which is about 12-30miles round trip gives me a paltry 18mpg whereas sitting on the motorway at a steady speed gives me up to 24mpg. The actual steady speed doesn't seem to make much of a difference.....

I've NEVER had better than 250 miles out of a tank...I thought I was running a tad rich before I realised the issue was with my addiction to the 'loud' pedal! Not entirely sure that TVRs are bought by those that consider fuel economy as a high priority....

I've NEVER had better than 250 miles out of a tank...I normally only get 200 out of a tank.

Not everyone on this forum has endless funds, so if I try to save a bit on petrol and hence keep another fine TVR on the road because of it, what's the big deal? ds ! Does anyone actually enjoy spending over £1.10 a litre (£5 per gallon

I've had 30mpg out the cerb, once, the day i bought it and brought it back to the North East from Cardiff - this was due to a terrential downpour most of the way so had to sit at 50 through it.
Since then I seem to get around 20-23mpg and it doesnt matter how I drive, though I do recall once getting 9mpg
but that was stupid.
However I didnt buy the Tiv to get MPG's, thats why I have an oil burner too.

well for me I just fill the Sag up with the V power drive, fill her up again and keep going, I know its not cheap, but I work for oil companies around the world getting this black gold to surface after Ive planned and drilled a well.
So I am a bit biaised on fuel, other cars I have are guzzlers!
But if you buy a Tiv then you dont expect much to the gallon, I havent really looked at it. The Sag is hopefully on its way to South west France to my home in Sept so maybe I'll check then
