How to ID if it's a BV

I noticed in the "What TVR PH'er ave2 bit, that there is a section for cars with BV (Big Valves).
So, the question is, how do you id a BV model?

Usually, BV on the plenum. Some have added this to 'post-production' BVs, some have added for no good reason and some pukka BVs have no outward indication. Unless the heads are checked pretty much impossible to be certain I believe.

The results of a RR session is normally a pretty good clue... to differentiate between 430 & 430BV at least? All the 500's should be BV's (only Quinny's I can think of who put smaller valves in?), 450's dunno seem to have been conflicting reports..

Not really sure of the context of your question, were you asking which cars had BV heads, or which 430's were really BV's..

A few early 500's had larger BV's.

Should be able to tell from the chassis plate IIRC.

Take the head off and measure the valves with a vernier.

The number on the engine is a good clue - but some dispute that so it may not be 100%.
I've owned both a 430 and a 430BV and they sound different on idle. The BV is much lumpier (and louder).

So basically I have to remove the head.... I'll check if I have to change the cam
Taking my Chim 430 to the Rolling Road tomorrow, so we'll see how it's doing
