News Flash: TVR Prices rocket!
Discussion
Would all Tiv owners like their cars to be worth more? What if we 'all' suddenly overpriced our cars (there are probably enough TVR owners on PH's to superficially increase the market prices of TVR's), would our cars possibly be worth more? I mean, its not as if they were built in the same numbers as Porkers etc. Most of us look after our cars metaculously. It would also stop boy-racers buying them and ruining/running them on shoestring budgets. Could we actually achieve a rise and also maybe even a cult status amongst the motoring fraternity?
Just a thought...not that i'm ever selling!

IMO this could work, if people want one enough then they will pay the normal going rate, if thats 500, 1000 or 5000 more.
However the demand for TVR's is limited and with other cars around which would become cheaper (should the tvr prices go up) then the demand would become even less.
This would then make people who are desperate to sell, drop their price and it could end up biting you in the arse as the prices could fall or you end up with a car that wont sell, as similar cars in the market place are cheaper and dare i say it.... seen as more reliable.

There is a cycle in car prices of potentially classic cars.
They go through a period when they become hard to sell. No one wants them as for the price there are others with better investment potential. People desperate to sell have to drop prices. Then the 'boy racers' or rather those who have no idea of costs, buy them and find that they cannot afford servicing and spares and they become shabby. Because of the fact that there are so many poorly maintained ones out there, the value of even the good ones drop as the car isn't seen as desirable. Then, after a few years in the doldrums, prices begin to rise as enthusiasts buy and rebuild them. They are seen at shows, become interesting and all of a sudden are classy again.
There would appear to be little one can do to stop this rather vicious cycle. Even E-types went through such a period. My father nearly bought a pristine 3.8 Mk II Jag. Chauffeur driven all its life, but no longer wanted. But he was shrewd enough to investigate petrol consumption and servicing costs.
I sold an MGTC, in quite good nick, for £145, about two month’s wages, in 1970 to finance my wedding. I’d asked £150 but there were a load around in the papers at that time so I had to drop my price. Within 10 years they were up around £10,000 then slowly got to £17,000 and sort of stayed there. The same will happen to those TVRs struggling with second hand values now.

Just look at the 70's TVR's now, they're selling like hot cakes & for good money too £5k +. It's the Wedges that are at the bottom at the mo but over the next 5-10 years or so, as the economic climate gets better & they get rarer the prices will go up, especially if they've had some restoration work.
There's also the desirability factor. For some reason the 70's Lotus Elite & Eclat values have crashed whereas Esprit values have stayed relatively good.

I was just too young to drive (or afford it) and the bottom fell out the market.
There was a short period in a petrol crisis when you could get genuine AC Cobra’s and change out of £4k. But fuel was hard to get.
My pleading with my father to get one fell upon deaf ears. He couldn’t see the investment potential in one. I never stopped rubbing that one in.
When I started driving, a mate managed to get a really tatty Lotus Elan as his first car. £400.

Get in quick, prices are expected to go through the roof, next year prices of all TVR's are expected to double.

There were signs of a surge in interest in the V8-engined Wedges just before the present recession. Values have been difficult to judge of late but I assume that as we come out so Wedges will seem as desirable again to more than just the enthusiasts.I was wondering what the green lobby's effects might be.
I certainly hope there's s bounce back. I couldn't give my wedge away for 1,500 pounds 18 months ago, so I kept it and still get great enjoyment from it.
The trouble is I know there are some big bills up ahead to keep it on the road and it's hard to justify spending more than the car is worth (especially to Mrs B).

If you're not planning on ever selling, you'd be better off if the prices crashed to really low, then you could stock up the garage with lots of TVR's!! Just a thought...not that i'm ever selling!
I vote drop the prices!! I'd love a Sag as well
