Isle of Wight

Well, I have a week booked in the Isle of Wight in October. Was meant to be taking my bird, but I ditched her last week so I'm going alone and taking the Chim

Any suggestions for things to do, good roads to drive etc for a single bloke and his P&J?

Also, thinking of sticking my pushbike in the back (I reckon it'll fit with the wheels off).

Best road on the island is the 'old military road' between (about) Ventnor and Freshwater on the south of the island.

yes the road from Ventnor to Freshwater is fantasic along the coast up to the needles. Not quite as good, but none the less nice is the road from just north of Sandown to Newport 'Bullys Hill' which runs along the top of a ridge of hills.

You will not be short of places to vist. The Old Battery and Rocket testing site at the Needles is good (park at Alum bay and walk). Alum Bay itself is a bit tacky but take the chair lift down to the beach and there is boat rides out and around the lighthouse.

What the others said, A3055 Ventnor to Freshwater, also roads over Bembridge downs are good, great views,

I was over on the IOW earlier in the year.

The Old Military Road is supposed to be excelent (I didn't find it) but the coast road from the Needles area towards Black Gang Chine was great fun.

(JUST looked on Google Earth and this is called "Miltary Road" so that might be the one everyone is on about. Great Road either way!)

There's only one petrol station with Super Unleaded on the Isle of Wight, just outside Ryde on the way to Brading. Oh and every person seeems to drive at 20mph.

Needle battery and rocket launch site is worth a visit, plus there's a good few eating places.

I live there and can show you the ropes if you like. There's some good eateries, drinkeries and some good roads too, the best ones currently being the ones recently having had a new surface. Many of the roads arn't really suitable but manageable for a TVR. PM me if you like

My Wedge coped well with the roads.....some were a bit "rollercoaster" in places though.

I think if I tried the wedge pre the rear end rebuild it would have been a very different story though.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it over there.
