Mixing Different Tyre Brands
Discussion
I've got an un-repairable slow puncture in one rear tyre. Currently I'm running Yokohama AVS Sports all round, but I'm thinking of changing back to Toyos.
The Yokos are slightly better in the dry compared to the Toyos and also wear better, but the wet grip is not quite as good and they tramline more.
As the Yokos are about half worn my intention is to replace both rears with Toyos and keep the Yokos on the front until they wear out.
Does anybody have an opinion on whether it's OK to have different brands of tyre on the front and rear - obviously I wouldn't mix brands on the same axle.
Thanks
TSS

After a lot of playing around on my Elise a while back I found that mixing them worked out better - having Pirellis on the rear & Bridgestones on the front worked best for me... I wouldn't have any qualms about doing it on the Tiv as long as the characteristics of each was right.
Having said that, when I picked my Cerb up, it had 1x Bridgestone Potenza, 1x S02, 1x Dunlop, and 1x Goodyear/Pirelli (can't remember which) on - the garage had just tried to put "4 new tyres" on it for me [sigh], and it drove like a barge. So, definitely wouldn't recommend different ones all round!

This has always been on my 'should I/Shouldn't I' buy this check off list for purchasing a car.
If the owner or the garage selling can't be arsed to ensure that it has good and identical rubber on all 4 corners I will walk. It raises the question, where else have they tried to make savings on the car

Would normally totally agree. This garage had only picked up the car an evening before I got to see it, however. It was the first TVR they'd ever had in and admitted there was no way they were touching any of the oily bits themselves. The tyres were down to them having to get it in a state where it could be test driven straight away. [kicks self for not remembering to make them change them for decent tyres]
