Tyres don't seem to hold pressure.

For some reason my tyres don't seem to hold pressure. I checked them last weekend and put 22 psi front and 24 psi rear. I used it on Saturday then put it away for the week. I've just been to check the pressures and have 20.5 on one rear 21.5 on the other. 20.5 front on both. WTF, this happened the week before as well.

My Chim's tyres seemed to stay at pretty much the same pressure even when only used at weekends.

Is this usual or not, could the valves be faulty?

Any ideas much appreciated.

I'd guess it's the wheels that are not air tight, what alloys are you running?

Could be the change in temps we are having this will cause the pressures to drop, take it out for a blat and warm the tyres up then check pressures.

If you had a problem with the wheels/valves etc I dont think it would be on all 4

Alloy wheels can become porous - I have had it with two on my Honda.

I was considering having tubes fitted to solve this issue.

I'm running 18" spiders.

Have just filled to the right psi, I will leave for a few days and re check.

I had a problem with one of my tyres going down slowly, I found this was due to the sealing rubber in the metal dustcap which had become damaged and was pushing down on the valve very slghtly.

are you checking them using the same gauge? Often petrol station ones get abused and rarely read the same after being chucked around.

It's possible you have a slow leak on valve or maybe the tyres have a slow puncture, If I were you I'd ask the local tyre fitters to break the seal down on the tyres and reseal them.

I was using the petrol stations gauge but have just bought a digital one so can be sure I get an accurate read.
I think to be on the safe side I will get my tyre fitter to look at them. Thanks all!

Could just be valve cores need a little tightening into valve bodies, have you tried spraying all round the valve and bead with a solution of soapy water ? any small leak should give a froth of tiny bubbles after a minute or two.

I had a similar problem, and as said above the issue was with my metal valves not setted right on the rim/ie worked loose. This was easily fixed by my tyre fitter who was able to tighten up the valve insitu.

If the valves are OK then I'd bung in some flat-fix, this tends to stop any minor leaks

had this on our other car, took it back and the garage said that it was due to corrosion stopping a good seal. They cleaned it up and it's been fine since.

I used to have this before I had my wheel refurnished. It was leaking air very slowly around the rim. When we took the tyres off someone had attacked the inner rim with a a very stiff wire brush or angle grinder, then painted it with sealent to seal the tyre (hence the refurbish).

Been absolutely fine since.

As the guys above really. Tyres ok. Valves ok but air leaking between the tyre and the rim due to corrosion. They identified it by spraying what I think was soapy water around the tyre and watching the bubbles. While pretty it's not exactly heart warming..
