Full or Partial respray?

My S2 has suffered a little of late - in addition to the few scratches / chips that had been poorly touched up in the past it was keyed badly a month ago





I have had a guy round from Chipsaway who didn't recon he would be able to get it to a standard that would be acceptable - so I'm toying with the idea of having a respray.

I'm guessing this will be expensive - does anyone here know if a partial respray (just the rear quarter and bootlid would be a worthwhile saving - or will I get a two tone effect car?

I think that if you find a really good paint shop, one that has one of those paint mixing systems and an oven spray booth, you should get a decent match, provided the colour isnt metallic...(doesnt look like it is in the pics). Hopefully someone can recommend a decent paintshop near you.

As long as you get a decent sprayer who knows their job, they should be able to blend the panels together. When I was doing minis I came across quite a few cars with the two tone effect. I found that these were often done at a cheap price. There is a coachworks by me who has done work and blended the colours together. I couldn't tell. But they are not cheap. The work is of a very high standard. I can get the number for you if you want Tim.

When I say "by me" I mean in Surrey. Not Newcastle.

P.s The guys is known as one of the Best Alpha Romeo restorers around. People fly from everywhere to get him to do work.

Had some paint done at my local TVR dealer recently & asked the question "my cars paint has had 7 years of sunshine, will you be able to match it ?" cars come back perfect, must add they sent it to the local Landrover dealer.

The boys at Ewelme C'works did a corner for me last year - the price wasnt anything like the same as a full job.

Jon there explained that they werent that keen on partial jobs as if you look carefully you'd see where it was one. Well, I know exactly where it was done & I cant see it!

Not sure where you are but I presume south east - if you venture down to Poole I can recommend a paintshop who did a good full respray for me at a very reasonable price.

Podie mentioned an excellent coachworks in Westcliff On Sea, but whose name escapes me. Allegedly v. good, but not over-priced.

I will be interested to see how yours turns out - I have cracks on the rear quarter that need respraying sometime, although mine is metallic

I had my Tasmin resprayed by a guy who specialises in motorcycle paintwork.
Cost £800 plus my time to take the car apart and rebuild it, but it looked like new:
