Hopefully, this shows up on this re-sized picture. There are a couple of small boxes, both with spade terminals, only one of which is connected or has an obvious connection point with the length of lead.

Thanks in advance.

I would have said it was the rectifier/regulator...

Takes the AC energy from the alternator windings and converts it into ~12V DC

Hi Tv8,

If you are talking about the little black boxes marked 'A3 93' then they are capacitors

used to suppress the noise that causes radio interference. The rectifier is fitted

internally, the voltage regulator is the silver item with vertical stripes just below one

of the capacitors externally.

Thanks everyone. I have a hyperactive rev counter and I was hoping that this could have been the cause?

I have the same problem & a recent post suggested that there is now no suppression on the HT side.
I put new connectors, plugs, HT Leads, Dizzy Cap & arm on.
It was suggested that the new leads might not have the correct Impedance (I think it was), so I was gonna try the old connectors, as I seem to remember there being 2 different types

http://www.tvrspareparts.com/part/675/plug-extensi...

If you read the print it say the suppressed ones are no longer available.
For yourself it would have to be HT Leads that are suppressed... I'm sure someone will be along soon that can point you in the right direction for them.

I changed the alernator tonight. The charging light doesnt glow fainlty in the dark now but the rev counter is still hyper mad

I wonder why there is a terminal completely unused but the main one has both wires connected to it. Is this correct?

you already have the supressor connected there is only one per alternator, the non connected one is spare and doesnt need connecting, tacho is taken from coil signal if it were taken from alterntor it would be at terminal marked w
