Manifold questions

Anyone replaced their manifold with a stainless item, does it improve sound/lower engine heat?
Also is exhaust manifold wrap a useful mod to lower engine heat for the summer? And does this lower noise (bad thing)

could not find the answers in the threads......

Mine has stainless manifolds fitted when the de-cat took place, it's louder, but can't say whether that's the de-cat and the manifolds or just the de-cat.

No noticeable difference in the heat - it's bloody hot all the time

Worth posting in general gassing as its not a Chimaera-specific question.

I thought the original manifolds were stainless, but there we go.

If you get replacements with pre-cats removed it should be louder. Try 'pre-cats' as a search term.

Heat wrap inhibits heat from radiating and should have no effect on the better bits of the noise. The manifolds themselves will be hotter because of the retention of heat and so you might not lower engine compartment temperature very much.

I've heard it's worth considering in local areas affected by heat (starter motor & PAS pump), but you risk overheating the manifolds and getting premature cracking by going overboard.

I replaced the peeling heat shields at the sides of my engine bay with some good quality thicker insulation from Demon Tweeks and the noticeable warmth around my left shin and the smell of cooking GRP have gone. Pretty awkward to do neatly though, took me all day.

Hey Tim... Yr timing with this one is perfect !
What a lovely weekend it was weather-wise to be testing a few tweaks or two on the Griff...

Was thinking of getting rid of the pre-cats & after some interesting deliberations, Tim at ACT sorted me out with a nice shiny pair of decatted stainless steel manifolds with extra long primaries & non reversal cones...
I must say I am a grinning child with a brand new toy again ! :-)
Apart from looking gorgeous - sitting there all snug in the engine bay, that gloriously huge wolfing grumble is greatly enhanced.. Altogether more pronounced - much deeper & crisper than before !
The main benefit which I've noticed though, is in the performance.. She's alot more purposefull, more responsive and theres been a noticeable hike in extra torque accross all the gears especially in the mid range & beyond - The pick up is awesome - Happy Dayz :-)
