Rear-ended (update)

Everyone was very kind, understanding and helpful, after my post regarding being rear-ended 2 weeks ago. Insurance engineer has examined the car at tvr bodyshop, and basically given the go-ahead. Repairs will be (gulp) around 5k. Good job other party's insurance will be paying. Have also put in hand additional works - Speed 6 headlight conversion, rear light upgrade and complete re-spray. After further thread re. alternative to rosso red, still undecided as to replacement colour - far too much good advice from all of you to make my mind up yet! Additionally, will be recarpeting the interior (black, I think), and replacing the dash (probably Leven chequer plate type)

Did they give you an estimate of time?

Unfortunately, yes. 8-10 weeks (plus the 2 weeks that has already elapsed).

Thanks Mungo, will do that! Will be in France for a week or two working on the house, so chasing up will begin on return.

So, you get the car back JUST AFTER all the salt gets washed off the roads, and with updates?

Well, I suppose that is a valid point - but I still want it NOW. Must make sure I do everything possible to ensure that anything needed is sorted during the waiting time. New bonnet and boot badges for one, and a Pistonheads sticker - there is even time to personalise it!

wrinkly, when similar happened to my griff 500 and the other party admitted liability I used my legal cover which I had with my insurance, they argued that I shouldnt be without a decent car for 12 weeks, lo and beholed, next morning, brand new audi tt turned up, might be worth a go.

Thanks for that good advice, but in my situation at present, have other motors I can use, and will be spending at least 50% of rebuild time in France. However, as I was advised by someone else, I will, however, be chasing insurance to claim for loss of use and, more importantly, reduction in cars value, due to it now being a categorised repair. These issues were kindly pointed out to me by another PH user, and should be borne in mind when claiming on any third party' insurance

I had a similar story with my Griff a while back. Same colour too. Was a 96 car and after much deliberation, decided to go for the same paint colour. The 96 paints were old ICI paints used by TVR. They were prone to fading and dulling. I could not believe how good it looked after the respray with modern paint. It was absolutely stunning. So I'd have a good look at a new rosso red paint job and convince yourself about that before dismissing your old version of the colour. You might be surpirsed!

Whatever - good luck with the repair and keep hassling them for a progress report!
