Just interested to know if they are the same.
Anyone use an electric power steering pump?
Do you mean electric steering or electric pump?Anyone use an electric power steering pump?
I've driven the Racing Green demo with their electric steering. Firstly I've got to say that I don't like most power steering. I prefer a bit of weight. Effort required to park a car is little price given the feel of unpowered steering. I used to have an E-Class Merc. Fabulous car, with the four-valve 6-cylinder engine being a dream, but the power steering ruined the car for me.
The power steering on later Speed 6 cars opened me up to how good a well sorted setup could be. I think it is the best steering, regardless of power or otherwise, of any car I've driven. So when I had a test drive of the RG bolt-on item I was more open-minded than I would have been.
I've got to say it was a revelation: progressive, with lots of assistance at parking speed and less as you went faster, cutting out altogether at a speed I've forgotten but was around 50mph. It made it completely unobtrusive. The advantage for Chims is that your are not restricted to the narrower tyres on the front. I'm not the world's best driver and like a litle understeer initially but for those who want to push the limits without pulling muscles electric power steering has a lot going for it.
Earlier this year I pulled a shoulder muscle. Not badly. It meant I couldn't park my Chim. How naff is that?
The electric steering coversion sounds very good but also very expensive.
What i was thinking of was a power rack and a electric hydraulic pump from a saxo or similar, thought it might be worth a try as it sounds simple.
Bought a cerbera rack on ebay the other night in the hope they are the same, easy enough to change the arms/track rod ends. If its not then i will re sell it and look for a chimaera one!
