Academy Days with TVRmonster and Mike Wilds

I have already done a day with Mike Caine and have booked a day with Mike Wilds.

I would recommend these days if you are into track days or you want to get into racing.

The first day is already full so I would be quick if you want to get on the second day.

When I read those forums, nothing makes sense to me, for example :

"3 Drivers max

Open Pit / 105db / Easytrack"

What's that mean? I'd love to do something like this. If only I had money. :-(

this is the chap for you, ex TVR factory driver who raced the T400R at le mans, he also raced the TVR Speed 12.

Are we talking Speed 12 or Cerbera Speed 12? Only the Speed 12 ever raced against Mclaren f1s, the Cerbera Speed 12 was a different class (GT2), but was infact a lot faster than the original Speed 12. Anyway, I don't wanna hijack your thread!

3 Drivers max = Pretty self explanatory... Only 3 drivers allowed on that booking

Open Pit = Open pit lane track day. There are two types of track day, sessioned; where the drivers are split into groups, and each group is let out in turn for 20 minutes or so in 'sessions'. Or open pit lane; where the whole track is open all day (except lunch), and anyone can go out any time for as long as they like, as many times as they like (provided the track isn't too crowded). I prefer open pit, some like sessioned but open pit gives you a lot more flexibility for things like coming in for driver tips from a pro in this case, or sorting mechanical issues, pee break etc.

105db = track noise limit. Measured at 3/4 of your rev range usually so around 4k in a TVR, 0.5m at 45 degrees to the ground from between the pipes. Too loud = no driving, hence why I have track silencers.

Easytrack = The company who has the use of the track that day, and is therefore running the trackday. There are a few different ones such as Motorsport Vision and Gold Track etc. Andy generally works with Easytrack though as far as I can recall!

Looking forward to the January session. It's my first circuit tuition other than an instructor sat alongside for 20 minutes at a trackday.

I just hope an old hound can learn new tricks to keep up with of some of the young pups coming into the TVR Championship next year.

I'm broke! I can't afford such extravagance as driver training at the moment. I have an ECU, clutch, flywheel, bellhousing, chassis work, windscreen, gearbox adapter, tyres, engine rebuild and some carbon bits to pay for! As well as a bunch of other things I'm sure I've forgotten. I've pretty much accounted for my next 3 pay checks as well...

When the worst of the bills are over with, I would really, really like to come on one of these days as I would love to get some tips from some great drivers. And of course show you why a Chim is better than a Griff on track lol.

What I'd really like to do as well is get the race car up and running and get that out on track with Mr Caine and have him help me get some settings on the car and show me how to get the good times out of it. It seems a long way off at the moment though I have to say...

Lol, that's not my garage unfortunately... That's where it used to live in Sweden. Huge place with 2 post lift, spray booth, fibreglassing room, engine building room, poker room (awesome), kitchen, office, and about another 5 storage rooms. The git got the whole lot, in the site of an old mine for about £15k. And because it is in an old mine.. It comes complete with another huge separate storage building, a rally track around it for use with various toys they have there, and a frozen lake on which they build ice racing tracks to mess about on in winter. Then its in the middle of nowhere with perfectly paved roads winding for miles in each way through thick forrest (where they used to test the race car), with short turn offs onto WRC rally stages evey now and then.


I'm considering moving to Sweden.
