Best place for outriggers in the North?

Well I've just got myself some interest free repayment time on the old credito card, so I intend to use it wisely and use it for repairs to the car. Obviously I want to tackle the big jobs, so the outriggers present themselves as a good start.

Firstly, where is the best place in Yorkshire to go for outriggers?

How much will it be for replacements, if needed?

If replacements aren't needed, how much is it to have the outriggers cleaned (I presume they sand blast them?), and then painted and waxoyled etc etc?

SSCC (Boroughbridge) are not far from you and have just finished a V8S that needed out riggers.

I was quoted over £3,000 by Harrogate Horseless. This was for a body-off job and they said they would pick the car up and drop it off again as it's SORNd at the minute.

TrackvRoad are highly recommended, I wrote an article on their procedure a few months back for Sprint but their jig is for Griffs or Chimearas.

Are you a TVRCC member...? Just got a flyer this morning from our RO regarding a body off chassis clean, paint and waxoyl for a grand...sure it was for RT Racing...provided it is booked in before Xmas (VAT rise). Ok - doesnt mention new outriggers/welding but sure they could do repairs as required during this process for an agreed price.

When my Tuscan was in at SSCC for it's service, i saw the V8s which had been refurbished and it looked stunning. Very nice job indeed

Try Ian at Sportmotive in Stoke. They seem to be able to do this without the body off.

SSCC are good, but expensive from what I recall. I don't know how much I will have on the credit card, could be £800, could be £2000, not sure yet.

As I said in my post above most people are offerig an outrigger service for Griffs/Chims at £1500.I guess an S outrigger may be a bespoke job, so best to check prices.

When it come's to do mine i will go down the stainless route i know a few on here hum and har about it but has any one tried and tested it? i was talking to the Engineering firm across from my barn and the fabricator recons he can knock it up for me no problem i am willing to give it a go and see if they work which i am pretty sure they will.

I know a guy who made a whole boat trailer out of 316 and tows it all over the uk to race his power boat and not one sign of a cracked weld and thats a boat trailer which gets bounced all over the shop.

I will be a guiney pig and spear head it whan it comes to it. ( not any time soon i hope)

The stainless will be fine as long as you sort your dissimilar metal welds. The chassis sees no heat in the area you intend to use it so should be fine.

Stainless will be no problem,i made a Land Rover offroader chassis many moons ago,the guy owned it over 5 years no problems.

Mild steel will be goood for 20 years if prep and coated correctly,look how good some of the Wedge chassis are!

I've done 2 M's outriggers with stainless, no problem.
TIG welded with high pure Argon & dissimilar wire (cant remember if I used 309 or 312) but to be honest I dont think it would make any difference just to use 316 wire.

I agree with all your comments above and know mild steel if preped correctly could last but i am a big fan of stainless and if i paid the extra to use it the car the car would be a keeper and i would go the whold hog if doing a body off As i think i have OCD when it comes to my tvr

So stainless steel is the best? Excellent. It may be a replace the entire chassis one day anyway, and hoof some monsterous yank V8 in there. But for now I just want to make the car run perfectly.

Be careful re stainless, do your research etc....
