while a grand seems like not a lot of money and i do fancy something to keep me occupied through the winter am i right in thinking this would cost 4 times its restored value to sort, shame to see another go to tvr heaven but i think thats past a "wash and brush up" such a shame :-(

The reality is that it is worth as little a you can get it for.
As an S1 it has the early type trailing arms and it needs a full body off.
The reality is that unless you love the S and just want to restore it for love, It will cost at least twice to restore properly than the sum it will be worth at the end of the project.
Is it worth a grand, probably!
But how much to restore properly.
£8-10k assuming engine and box are fundamentally sound.
How much will it be worth after? £5-6k if perfect.
Don't get me wrong its a TVR. There all worth having
You won't be restoring it to turn a profit though! That said 20 years down the line, Who knows.
I'd offer him £500.
If I was spending a grand I would be looking for a basket case M series.

In my view that interior could be easily sorted. It's just a wee bit mucky. Nothing a bit of elbox grease wont solve.
Outriggers - couple of hundred, if that, if done yourself.
Clutch - no idea, probably not much as it's a standard ford part.
The other option is to buy it and use it for parts. I'm sure it could help kjeep another few S's on the road.....mine is the same colour, so if anybody buys it and sells the body panels, give me a shout.

I agree.
This would be an ideal project for a welder/paint sprayer/upholsterer/car valeter/mechanic.
So my mate Rob then? lol. Unfortunately, after merely reversing my Tiv, he couldn't get out properly as he's about 6'3. He was thinking of buying one as a project at one point as he loves Fords, and this is like a Ford convertible in many ways. This would be an ideal project for a welder/paint sprayer/upholsterer/car valeter/mechanic.

I gave away my Tasmin earlier this year because I didnt want it totally scrapping.
this is what i mean, i would love to rescue the car but i fear it would cost me big time, and there are many TVR'S in the same boat and if i were rich i would save them all,, starting with a cerb!! (itch, scratch, hmmm) Edited by so called on Tuesday 22 December 11:00
It will cost you! probably about 8-10k which is still pretty much half what the average supermarket runabout costs today!!
If you want to do it because you want to restore a car then go for it.
My personal opinion is that this should be the only reason why people restore cars.
At the end of the day you will own a car which you have built yourself. How much is that worth to you?
