Stupid Question?

When I lived in the UK, I had Bridgestone SO3s on my Chim 450. I don't want to go to the expense of changing wheels on my Cadillac CTS, (it now has 16 inch) so I am considering putting on a set of these to give it a little better road manners.

Has anyone out there used SO3s on something other than a performance sports car? The CTS handling is similar to a BMW 5 or Audi A6.

They are about 90 dollars per tyre cheaper than Michelin Pilots.

No direct experience, so this is opinion only...

...I would expect them to be noticeably noisier than std tyres and probably affect the ride as the side walls are likely to be stiffer than those on a non-sports tyre. That said, grip in wet and dry should be better.

It will depend upon what they are being compared to though. Have a look at www.tyres-online.co.uk/tyretest/tests.asp. It may help.

I've got an Audi A6. S03s lasted about as long as any other tyres on it, gave very good grip and were quiet. However they ruined the ride quality. I've now switched to Dunlop SP9090 (bought through my-tyres.co.uk) The Dunlops are 95% as grippy and much much more comfortable. With the S03s my A6 tramlined more than the TVR. With the Dunlops I get zero tramlining. So my verdict - don't put them on a luxo barge.

The A6 handles quite well so as long as I've got decent tyres then it's fine (light 1.8T engine up front instead of a heavy V6/V8 means it's surprisingly nimble - not a sports car, but better than average).

Transformed the grip on my missus 3 series BMW, both wet and dry. Much heavier tyre than the standard tyre supplied so the suspension thumps a bit more with the extra mass.
