Catagory X Repair

I apologise in advance if this is a stupid question but what are the different insurance damage catagories (for example Cat C) and what kind of damage does each catagory indicate.

Have been previous threads on this one in the archives.

But specifically.... Cat C Insurance Loss Vehicle - extensively damaged but repairable - insurer decided not to repair.

IIRC wasn't there an article on this way back (probably a couple of years back now!) about various catagories and getting cars inspected / cleared etc. and knowing what you were buying.

Ted - can you help on this?

just dont make the mistake of thinking cat c is more damaged than cat d.we regularly buy salvage and i`ve seen cars with hardly any damage on c and really mullered on d.the only difference between the two is financial.a cat d can be repaired within the value of the car and a cat c can`t(ie with new parts and insurance labour rates)
