Considering getting a Tracker fitted.

I am considering getting a Tracker fitted to my TVR. I am looking at the Tracker Horizon which includes GPS and VHF Tracking, but no Drvier ID.

Does anyone have any experiences with Trackers or any recomendations?

Also does anyone know what percentage a Tracker brings down the insurance which companies such as A Manning and Adrian Flux?

I have peformed a search of all the TVR posts with the word 'Tracker' in posted in the last 8 years suprisingly there are only 11 posts, none of which are any use.

Having dealt with this company in the past, I would recommend finding a different provider.

I haven't looked in to it very recently, but when I bought the Cerbera, I would have saved as much on the insurance as I was going to have to pay to have the Tracker active.

I think that if mine went missing, I probably wouldn't want it back, due to probable unseen damage to the driveline / engine

Being a Scotsman I'm a Tight arse and heres a much cheaper alternative;

Take one old mobile phone, a Pay as You Go sim, and a car charger.
Hide all in car, making sure the phone has signal, and jobs a good'n....simples

Hi there,my cerbs came with a tracker monitor fitted,I paid £300 for lifetime subscription,when ever the car has been moved whilst armed,ie pushed or towed when in for repairs,the system has alerted me.All the insurance companies ive used have insisted that a tracker device is fitted.Ive had the car 5ys,so £60 a year seems bearable

Sounds like the same one I am looking at. Many of the insurance companies I have called in the past insist on a Tracker being fitted which is why I am looking into it.

How do they notify you when the car is moved without permission?

IME they save nothing, or less than the cost, or (like my other thread) cost more to add to the policy. Crazy.

A guy at work had one fitted, he got phone calls at least twice a month saying it had been stolen when it had not. Not sure which one he had, but it sounds like it was a load of bish!

I work in insurance and I can assure you they are variable in their effectivess to say the least.

Most cars with trackers are long gone and the device silenced or removed well before the Police can do anything.

If a good thief wants your car a tracker will make feck all difference.

Many thanks for the advice gents, based on the comments / suggestions I think will reconsider my initial plan to fit a Tracker.

My insurance co has never insisted on a tracker. I would prefer to not have one anyway - why would I want a car back that has been thrashed to death by a joyrider? I'm damned sure the insurance wouldn't pay for clutch and gearbox rebuilds unless they were broken when the car was recovered.

Ant let's be honest, any unwary opportunist stealing a TVR is likely to park it in a backwards in a hedge anyway. If they're at all professional about it, then you'll never see it again anyway.

The result is that a tracker is not worth the money - the payback based on percentage savings on insurance was more than 5 years for me, and since I was only 24 when I got the car, I figured my insurance would go down faster simply by me getting older assuming I keep it out of the hedges myself.

So far, so good! It's been just under 6 years so far.

the man speaks the truth if you got your car back it would be in some state as my mate found out with his seat cupra he got back he had wished it was not found over 400 miles away from Glasgow down south.

a friend of mine with a cerb got Carl Baker to fit an alarm that comes with a free phone and the car calls you via text with info about it's location and battery level etc bit like the ebay thing but a bit more professionally fitted.
