Insurance - help!
Discussion
okay first off i realise this has been done a million times before, i've done a search and tryed the main recommendations
i'm trying to get a quote on a 98 4.5 chim worth about 18k
so far i've had.
Sunninghill - £1313
Elephant - £1608
Tesco - £2500
A Mannings - won't insure due to lack of experience
Classicline - won't insure due to lack of experience
Heritage - won't insure under 30's on Chims!!!!! WTF?
seems my 250bhp sierra doesn't count as a performance RWD car
anyone got any suggestions? my mate whos the same age, lives literaly over the road had exactly the same details i.e. no no-claims etc and pays £700ish on a Griff 500 with heritage!
i'm 25 (26 in 2 months), with no no-claims due to a company car and 2 classic policys, no accidents, good postcode LE19 - an sp50 from 1999...
any ideas? looks like my TVR ownership plans are gonna end in tears as i refuse to pay over £1000 per year for fricking insurance

Have you tried Directline?
Try hear http://uk.directline.com/dl/directline.jsp
Plug in your info and have a play.
You may get a little more coverage in the General TVR Gassing and Stuff.
If you like it moved just shout!

zumbruk, just looked at your profile, i guess they wouldn't question a cossie.. XR4 turbo is a bit on a strange one!
Al, yeah tryed them the online form says i must phone up.. thing is they use the same underwriters as tesco so i should image its the same story..

Can't understand that.
I got a quote online at the weekend for a Tuscan S that was £300 cheaper
than my current insurer! Quote was valid for 90 days and I got email confirmation!

!
basically tesco and directline are the same insures with different skins
the company i work for supply the rental cars to them when peeps have curtosy cars... i figure silly quote from tesco then silly quote from directline
will try norwich union, i've only heard bad things about adrian flux so will be giving them a miss..
is it possible to get a quote through the club without being a member on the premise i'd become a member if i got said car?

Each renewal I try Mannings, each year they are less helpful. I also object to being told I have to join the owners club as part of the deal, I join clubs if I want to not because I am told to!

I had a motor traders policy for many years and had no track record of my own as such. I still managed to get some NCB allowed because I had not had any accidents.

Ivan, i think this is my problem, Sunninghill did say they would accept a letter from my work for the 6 years claim free driving i have and give my a 65% bonus.. but that still sounds expensive for a quote with effectivly full no claims!
i just can't believe my mates is so cheap and this is his first performance car too!
i've just tryed HIC who i'm with for the sierras and they wanted £1750 and i had to have a cat 1 alarm fitting and a tracker!! FFS!

So are Norwich Union and Elephant... they use the same Database so make sure you give them both IDENTICAL information. (Don't ask..
) Cheers,
Matt.

IME this is standard for owners club policies!

If by joining a club you ended up with competitive quotes then fair enough, that has not been true in my case. They also have no interest in insuring you if you have not owned a TVR before. So that would suggest that you need to go elsewhere the first year, if you survive that, "come to us and if you ask nicely we will take your money". Either you insure TVRs or you don't.
Ivan
