Hello
has anyone owned both a Speed 6 Cerbera and one of the V8 Cerberas at the same time? I am wondering how they compared. Not sure which to go for. We have had a 4.2 in the past and although I loved it, I did find it hard work and I wonder if the Speed 6 is slightly more 'relaxing' (for want of a better word) to drive. We are aware of the engine 'stuff' going on with the Speed 6 but are interested in your opinions on the drive. Thanks for reading, S.

Well Sarah, I think I gave you advice on the skiing thread.

One of each is the way to go, it makes sense you know hehe

(had a 4.2 and 4.5 but not a sp6 yet)

Best not go on about your 4.2 Dave wink

I know someone who had a 4.2 then changed to an S6. He said he prefered the S6, especially for 'normal driving', right up until the eng.....well that's all in the past biggrin

I'd go and drive an S6 or two.

i had one of each last year a 4.2 (2), speed 6 and 4.5

the speed 6 was a 2000 x reg and had the tuscan seats which did make a big difference and were very comfortable.

the main things that seem to make the biggest difference to the way that they all ride and handle seems to be wheel size and suspension. the 16" saturn alloys on the v8 or s6 makes for a nicer ride and less twitchy but don't look as nice. the 18" spiders look great but due to the low profile tyre can be a harsher ride and twitchy, best bet are the 17" RL's.

as for suspension i would say that the nitron's gave the best of both worlds in terms of ride and handling, gaz gold's were quite harsh and didn't absorb the bumps very well, original shocks on S6 gave a good ride but not the greatest control.

the speed six cerb works well, is as quick as the 4.2 and you'll get more car for your money. the only downside is you don't get the pops and bangs

I haven't owned both but i have driven plenty as i used to work for the factory. The V8 engines are a bit harsh to live with on a day to day basis. The speed six is a much smoother engine and has a broader band of power and will pull more smoothly through the gears. The problem with the speed six is a question mark over the reliability but is much easyer to get the parts to repair but most of the problem's will probably be fixed by now. But for me personaly my heart would be with a 99' onward's 4.2 cerbera as it has a 4.5 engine but with 4.2 inlets and makes a good compromise all round.

I had heard this but was never sure how true it was. So is the capacity 4.5 or 4.2? Could make a whole load of difference to my current (fruitless) search yes

mine had standard exhaust and cats, it was fairly quite.

went on a run last year with a 4.2 (decatted) and about 10 other cerb's down to goodwood and the speed six owners couldn't believe how noisy the V8's were, especially through petworth smile
don't get me wrong the sound of a speed six at full chatt is awsome, sounds like a true race engine. example of tuscan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSlkKO-ERD0

Agree with all of this - had a S6 for 3 1/2 years and have owned my current 4.2 for a year. The S6 on 16" was an easier ride both in terms of turning circle, ride comfort and engine progressivness (did I just make that word up - sorry, been drinking drunk ). The V8 on standard suspension was a much firmer (read uncomfortable) ride and power is defintely most notable on higher rev ranges.

I switched to full Nitron suspension a few months back and now handling and ride are vastly improved. Turning circle is still shocking!

One thing I won't fully agree with though - My S6 still the popped and banged with the best of them (not quite as satisfingly as the V8)..... but saying that I did go through 3 engines on the S6 (Don't read my profile on maitainence costs unless you want a heart attack!)

Hmmm, lets see. Blue, silver or black. Light colour interior. Its going to have to be an early one due to budget restrictions - remember its in place of not going skiing so there is a top limit!!

You really want to wait and go to a local track where 4.5's/4.2s and speed sixes are comming up the straight together.
