10k TVR? Probably Not!

I post this mainly for the benefit of new members to this forum.

If you have 10k would you buy a TVR?

Personally, I wouldn't buy a TVR unless I had any less than 15k with a 3k reserve fund.

Buying a TVR around the 10k and no reserve is stupidity itself.

Obviously, I'm not talking about haggling, a 15k TVR can easily be haggled down 10k from sellers depending on the sellers situation and desperation, I've done this twice for clients.

Anyway, I'd like to hear opinions and or facts.

Absolute nonsense - I've never spent as much as £15k on any of my 8 TVRs, nor needed a £3k fund either!
Can't have been lucky THAT many times...

I'd say ballcocks - all depends on so many variables. If you can afford to buy the car outright, don't depend on it to get you to work and back and have somewhere to store the car if something gets awry that you can't afford to fix right away, you don't run a risk really?? OTOH if buying the car means you're up to your eyeballs in debt and you must use the car everyday to keep in gainful employment... maybe not such a clever idea.

What's he on about. There are some cracking bargains around for £10K and I'm not talking about the usual rubbish. I've seen quite late decent Chim's for less than £10K, and thats from a Griff owner.

i've got a nice 400se you can buy £18,000 but i'll knock off £3000 for cash and for another 3k a year i'll service it for you.

My first Chim was £9k and there was nothing wrong with it at all. Didn't have "FTVRSH", didn't have concours paintwork, but it was solid and never let me down. Have spent a little more this time, for a nicer car, but nothing like £15k.
