Insurance renewal time and my Hagerty quote has ballooned a bit so looking for any experience people may have with the below to assist my decision making i.e. general policyholder assistance, claims, mods acceptance should anything change this year etc. Quotes are all for my 1995 Griff 500 on 3k miles at an agreed value of £13k if it makes any odds? Hagerty have insured me for the past three years and have been great, I just resent the extra 35+% this year!
Hagerty - £395.43 - £250xs - Allianz
Manning - £347.40 - £250xs - Allianz(?)
MSM - £348.87 - £150xs - ? - inc European breakdown cover
RH Specialist - £330.75 - £250xs - Equity Red Star - inc European breakdown cover - requires cert for agreed value
Head says RH specialist but am not sure what ERS are like if anything goes wrong (I believe Allianz are good?) or how difficult it is to get a valuation certificate. If the valuation certificate is a royal PITA to organise I'd rather just pay the extra premium - life's too short!

I remember as a young lad in the 70's having a presentation in Sulzbach, with one of our German VP's describing them like Lloyds, the NHS, the DSS and the Bank of England all rolled into one
I later had closer experience when C&W/ECRC provided their internet presence and surprisingly I became less skeptical of those early claims
Not sure we've had any companies with that kind of profile since the days of Private Eye bufooning Tiny
Can't you use & even contribute to the insurance WIKI at the top of this page? I thought thats what it was there for?
I only have experience of A.Manning and the Allianz policy out of those, but I did have to make a total loss claim about 5 years ago and they were very good. The claim was sorted with the minimum of fuss and a valuation was mutually agreed face to face with the loss adjuster
I've stuck with them partly becuase of the way they handled the claim and didn't screw me when the policy came up for renewal (only loaded it by £50) but mainly becuase of the inclusive track day cover.

This is interesting as i was led to believe Hagerty were not renewing insurance on post 1980 tiv's,very interesting actually as im in the exact same situation car wise and was expecting to have to look elsewhere come renewal time.
They renewed my `98 Cerb insurance in November & it was the best quote i got after shopping around.esso said:

Peter S. Taylor.
Classic policy, 6K miles pa (can be extended).
Agreed value £35K (well that's what I estimate it would cost to rebuild a SEAC to my high standards).
£134.40.
Have a De Tomaso & BWM with them.
Had one claim over the years - instant payout. Not worth my while looking elsewhere.

420 SEAC

I've tried most of the companies on the Wiki - results as follows for interest. Car is 1995 Griff 500, garaged, 3k miles.
RH Specialist - £330.75 - £250xs - Equity Red Star - inc European breakdown cover - requires cert for agreed value
Manning - £347.40 - £250xs - Allianz(?)
MSM - £348.87 - £150xs - ? - inc European breakdown cover
Classicline - £371.62 - £250xs
Hagerty - £395.43 - £250xs - Allianz
AON / Footman James - £404.70 - £125xs - inc European breakdown cover
A-Plan - £420 - £250xs
Richard Eggar - £430.43 - £250xs
Adrian Flux - £744!
Peart - £900+!
Regarding all the Hagerty questions, this is my third renewal from them and has to be taken up by tomorrow. Yes the car is post-1980 and on top of that I'm still under 30... The difference I guess is that I've been a loyal customer for the last three years?
So back to who to use... How hard/expensive is it to get a valuation certificate? Will the TVRCC provide one? Anyone know who underwrites MSM or what they are like to deal with if the worst happens?

I wrote to Hagerty and asked for an explanation (I've been with them a while and have 3 cars with them). Here is part of my reply from an underwriter dated 26 Jan. No doubt there is a cut off date which I fell outside but maybe you were lucky and timed it right:RH Specialist - £330.75 - £250xs - Equity Red Star - inc European breakdown cover - requires cert for agreed value

Thank you for the email regarding coverage on your TVRs that are currently insured through Hagerty International.
We have recently changed our underwriting guidelines, in accordance with Allianz Insurance’s strategy for 2010, and are now only able to insure TVR’s that were manufactured prior to 1980, as your cars were built after our 1980 cutoff date we will not be able to offer you a renewal in 2010.
We are writing to policyholders within 25 days of their renewal date to advise how our new underwriting guidelines will affect them, this will allow plenty of time for you to find alternative cover.
All at Hagerty thank you for your support over the last years and are sorry that we are no longer able to offer cover on these cars.

I had heard that Hagerty's had put their prices up and they have by about £100. I phoned about and so has everybody else. They were still very keen to keep my business and quoted £600 to insure my cerb and aston with 1500 miles on each and with both my wife and son (33yrs) on the policy also, thats with aggreed value on both. Very reasonable i thought.
From what Dave M says, it's Allianz's policy to insure only pre 1980's TVR's.
This being the case then Mannings also use Allianz so are they going to follow ?
This would be pretty bad as that would be two of the players out of the market.
Less competition normally means an increase in prices.
