Fitting an Australian number plate - TVR Chimaera

Just received my new Australian number plate to fit to my 1993 TVR Chimaera, which was recently imported from the UK.

Problem is the UK number plate is significantly larger (520mm x 111mm) and the Australian slim plate ( 371mm x 100mm). Alas the mounting holes on the car are approx 500mm apart, making it near impossible to fit the new plates - I could drill new holes for the rear plate, but then I would have to try and hide the original ones - but that sounds rather amateurish and potentially disastrous. As for the front plates, the mounts are behind the grill and cannot be moved, so I can't drill new holes - so my only choice is to use the existing ones.

I could fashion a mounting bar, but that would look plain ugly, so any ideas?

What are the regs for Aus number plates? i.e. can you have new ones made up? If so, you could get Craigs Plates or similar to make up a set of UK size plates with your Aus number on them.

Not quite sure, but I've been told I have to use the plate supplied by the government (can't get ones made at your local garage like in the UK), but can have a mounting plate - but that would look ugly

Not an ideal solution I know but you could use a chrome/stainless steel backing plate made to the size of an UK plate.Saw a rear plate holder on a chim a while back at the Cambs club meet which had discreet LED lighting built in which worked quite well.That meet is this Sunday I will see if I can find out any info for you.

That sound ideal! Was thinking of LEDs to hide the extra space on either side of the Oz plate. Would be great if you could get some info and even a photo!
