How Does The Secondhand Market Look?
Discussion
Just after some other opinions really.
Trying to guage whether to hang on a few more weeks - I am not really in a great hurry, but could use the garage space. Am selling - I notice a few cars are moving, but with the prolonged wintry weather there doesn't seem to have been a lot of interest - some, the usual low triers-on and foreign "buyers" and a couple of genuine viewings. Could be trying Fleabay before too long - I think I've priced there or thereabouts, but could be wrong. Fleabay would sort that out, but I am a bit nervous of it for big ticket items - don't mind for cameras and household stuff.
Also I have noticed that all the pale blue/silver cars seem to be on the market at once - they seem to be the ones not moving!!!
Or have people really got no money at the moment - should I give up for six months?

Difficult one. There are signs of recovery, on the other hands people are worrying about the double dips of the economy. I think it is pretty much depended on the spec and the condition of the car. I believe there are a pool of genuine buyers do have the money, it is a question of whether they will spend their money on any particular cars. There are a number of cars being sold at Str8six for the past 2 months, obviously Jason and his crews have a very good reputation.
Historically, Easter is the turning point for TVR sales. Wouldn't surprise me if this is the year demand outstrips supply for the most desireable models so buy now to avoid dissapointment as they say (No, I'm not a TVR dealer but do think they are steal at present!)

Personally I think it's hard to tell. If you have something a bit unusual or 'special' then I think it'll fetch quite good money even now. i.e. Sagaris or Cerb L/W R.R.
I have a couple of associates who buy a supercar for the summer then sell it in winter and plop around in a small diesel until the weather improves. They have no attachment to their cars, just like something nice for the summer.
So for the mostpart i'd wait until spring. After that, I think it's anyones game. The economy is a bit like a drunk at a lamp-post. Currently propping itself up but no-one knows if it's gonna fall over again or make it home, the scrappage scheme is due to end so the artificially stimulated S/H car market may take a dip (Which affects everything) and fuel prices are still climbing, not to mention the 'Green' lobby making the drivers of fast cars look like the devil's child.
It's all a bit up n down at the mo methinks.

I find it quite odd that people would be put off from buying a car simply because of the cost of taxing it.
When other running costs are taken into account (for a correctly maintained car), this represents quite a minor expense, and one that is more than compensated for in the case of older TVRs, by the low cost of insurance.

I disagree Graham. I would rather spend the extra £250 on 1000 miles worth of Shell or a couple of nice tyres, rather than give it the government who seem to penalise motorists at every opportunity. When other running costs are taken into account (for a correctly maintained car), this represents quite a minor expense, and one that is more than compensated for in the case of older TVRs, by the low cost of insurance.

The extra money will also come in handy having the tracking done after landing in the potholes that abound in our roads!

You are in a minority. Most people whince at say £1200 a year car tax. But I agree that depreciation is the most expensive cost on a newish car and so the tax issue isnt that logical (but surely as it gets more expensive then it will become less 'odd').
