you guys who mod your middle exhaust box

Hi all,

sorry to be trespassing on your turf fellas, but I have a Q and think you are the best chaps to help me.

In short, I am aware that some of you convert your middle box to a straight-through pipe to let your cars roar better.

I have a ........ please dont stone me to death........... a porsche 944 and I think it's too quiet so am considering doing the same thing. I know it will not sound like a V8!

I'm not after more power, nor do i want it to be Saxo-loud, I just want some more bark to it. But what I need to know is, are there any 'cons' to the arguement?

Do you get less mpg? Fluffy running at certain revs?
Any feedback appreciated.

I believe that he has come to the conclusion that all Saxo's have young drivers and all young drivers modify the Zorst of cars that they drive with something which he considers too loud.

I have some. Don't tar all Saxo drivers with the same brush. My nan drives one and I have never seen her raving about her new stainless zorst.

thats the problem, if its a tvr then you are in the right place, but if you are not familiar with a 944 then how can you advise on what is good or bad, to be honest I couldn`t even tell you if it`s got the engine in the front or the back, so by suggesting to the O/P to ask on the porsche forum should really be his best bet?

I doubt anybody here would know the answers to your questions regarding the pros and cons regarding you car in particular as all engines behave differently. But in general terms: MOT should be fine, you won't get pulled over if it's not too loud, and a better flowing exhaust in most circumstances is a good thing. It may be an easy mod to do, why not try it? What are you going to lose?

i'm asking what effect it had on the cars of the people who did it

blimey it was hardly a toughie, it wasnt as if i asked about what to do about a woman, or a racist friend or an ebay car part that's claiming to give me 300 extra bhp

Well it will do bugger all for H/P on the RV8 cars Griff/Chim because the silencer consists of perforated tube rapped in wadding chances are your silencer will be the more restrictive silencer with this kind if internal baffle cant tell you the performance gains of sleeving the silencer on your 944 but would imagine it would show more gain than doing the equivalent Griff/Chim silencer a few H/P maybe really depends if that's a restrictive part of your 944 exhaust system your not really going to know this though until you open up the silencer to peek inside and there is no telling how loud it will be after you sleeve the silencer

No,i think these cars sound nice without all the over run racket(pops & bangs)a good V8 don't sound like that a pre-cat TVR sounds the nuts but sleeved silencer'd TVR Griff/Chim sounds like a tug boat and i am not into boats its a matter of opinion of course

This the point though...however it affects a v8 in a chim/griff bears no relation to how it would affect a 944.... mine is sleeved,performance is fine,not fluffy on throttle responce,but in yours? who knows

This is true, but if it's not farting things up for your lot then i'd say it's probably worth a try for me too. I have heard mention of impressing popping noises on the over run. My 924 turbo used to do that, always made me grin.
