Black Marks On Carpets

Hi Guys

Can anyone offer advice on cleaning methods for carpets.
The rear carpet behind the seats on my Griff have black (soot like) marks.
More so around the speakers (old vent area)
Dust must be getting in around the gaps etc.
My only concern is if i try to clean the marks of with a wet cloth or sponge, i may well make things worse

When I rebuilt my Griff I was looking at fitting new carpets, instead I called a car valeter who wet vacuumed the carpets(whilst the seats were still out) and he removed all of the dirty marks gathered over the cars life.
Well worth £20 !

Dont laugh as i didn't believe this until i tried it, was on a house carpet but !!
Shaving foam--- Rub in and leave for a few min then wipe off, Was told it had to be the original stuff but i only had the foaming can stuff. Tried anyway and hay presto,

if they are removable, then put them in the washing machine! took a set from an audi quattro which had sat in a feild for a few years down the laundrette and they came out like new (low temp, natural dry, no shrinkage)

Cant remove carpets!

I shall try the shaving foam method!
