Anyone had experience of insurers declining / withdrawing TD cover when changing from ZR to VR rated tyres on a Griff. Hasn't happened to me (yet) but my broker is checking with the underwriters as they think the UW, whilst happy for VR rated tryes for road use, may not be happy for them to be used for trackdays. Context btw is the old chestnut - I'm looking to replace Toyo Proxes T1Rs on std 15"/16" wheel setup.
Never heard of anyone in any car having a problem with their tyres on a track because they are V rated.
No JR not with the tyres themselves but the issue for me was whther my insurers were npot going too provide TD cover with VR rated tyres. Apparently there are several underwriters who take that stance.

I appreciate that. Insurers usually base their cover on statistical facts so if there are no records of problems due to incorrect tyre rating when departing from a Z rating they are unlikely to refuse cover on that basis. I think that the key word that you have typed is 'apparently'No JR not with the tyres themselves but the issue for me was whether my insurers were not going to provide TD cover with VR rated tyres. Apparently there are several underwriters who take that stance.

Hi Mark, I'm sorted - spoke to the UW directly and they are happy for me to use VRs for TDs as well as road. So will stay with Proxes T1Rs - VR fronts and ZR rears. Getting a good supply and fit deal from Jeffreys HPT, Warrington.
Told you Nige, they always err on the don't know won't do. But if you ask a specific question on a superior product...they will go with it.The reason the tyres don't have that rating is that no-one uses 15s on 180mph cars (other than TVR).
The T1R is a newer/superior product but they have to pay for rating testing on each size/width.
Not worth it for 15s. The product is still constructed for zwy ratings, just not "rated"
Remember, we are talking ACTUAL mph. Not many where a Griff can hit a 150 in the UK or at all.
