Getting steering central after removing rack?

I am due a new rack on the Chimaera, and fromn reading through the bible it says to mark the splines and shafts to aid assembly of the UJ's and make sure that the steering is central when everything goes back together.

The problem comes because i have decided to strip the whole lot out to replace, so how would you make sure it is all back and lined up fine on reassembly? Or is it a case of get it back as near as you can then just take the steering wheel off and put it back on centrally.

Sorry if i am missing a trick here i just don't want to balls anything up

Best effort then re-adjust it when you can mark exactly what is 'driving forward'. Not easy to get the accuracy of knowing what really is central + you have to get the tracking set ...

Refit rack, remove steering wheel and realign, easiest option!

As the bottom UJ will only go onto the pinion splines in one position, unless the pinion was put in the new rack at exactly the same position, you'll need to move your steering wheel.
