Guys,

I have been looking at the 'Strongman' range of lifts and thing I've finally decided on a Clifton Club twin scissor lift so have a demo at their warehouse tomorrow.

I measured the length of the outrigger to be 5ft (1524mm) to make sure the ramp platforms won't foul the wheels when it lifts or I won't be able to get the buggers off. I know if I don't physically attach the on/off ramps I'll be OK.

What I didn't measure like a pillock is the width of the chassis from one outrigger to the other. Does anyone know this?

There are two Clifton Club scissor ramps - a Standard and a Narrow so I need the numbers if I'm to put in an order tomorrow and I'm darn saaarf tonight.

Does anyone know the width apart of the central square sections - Quinny, do you remember the numbers from building your exhaust bracket plate?

I've been working since 8am yesterday morning (28hrs and counting!) so excuse me possibly being a little slow Del.
This Front / taper / Rear is ;
engine bay / around the gearbox:bellhousing / down the centre under the tunnel

Ian, plse post up how the demo goes tomorrow. Very interested as I'm looking at options for a ramp to install in a small barn that will be future home and servicing base for the Griff. Main issue for me is height of roof above ground when car is in the air at a comfortable/useable working height, as I will probably have to 'relocate' some major roof timbers to provide sufficient headroom!

Thanks for your help guys.
I went to Strongman today and had a look at the Clifton Narrow doing its thing with a VW Polo.
I'd say you need the Standard version for the Griff/Chim. The Narrow would fit under the car - sitting about flush with the outer sills, but that means you've be lifting close to the outer edges of the platform which isn't really recommended even though thats how it was with the Polo today.

I guess its my lucky day because the Clifton Standard is the cheaper option at 1885 squids wink

The platforms are quite close together, but not close enough to get lift on the centre section of the chassis, which would mean buying their Cross Bars at £225 if you really wanted to pick up on the chassis instead of outriggers.

The lift operates very smoothly with reassuring clunks as it passes the auto locking mechanism, and lifting the sills to 1m high is more than you'd imagine, though you can stop it at any height.
It was all rock solid with the VW up at max height - I couldn't rock anything with a good shove.

Two things you'd not imagine before buying one of these
1) you need a power supply with a 32a breaker on it. Thats more than I currently have so it means a new circuit.
2) you also need a compressor capable of 50psi pressure output, this is to lift the auto lock mechanism for lowering the lifts.

Although I was very impresssed, the cost has gone up quite a bit this year, so I think I'll hang fire until some more of These are delivered in about 5 weeks and go look at one.

Strongman is a good name, but the Automotech AS-7530 comes in £400 cheaper at £1,468incl VAT and has a couple of advantages
1. it only needs a 16a supply which is what I already have
2. the control box is on a little frame with castors. Might sound daft but the Strongman controller was quite big with no wheels.
And the guy at AutoMotech - Norman, has responded to my queries really quickly.

If this looks 90% as good/solid as the Strongman I'll get the AS-7530, otherwise I'd be more than happy with the Strongman in my garage.

Sorry this has got a bit long winded and turned into a review of the lifts I'm looking at, but I thought you'd appreciate the info.

ETA: Just seen your note TAVAN, PM me if you need any more info. I'll drop you my phone number if it would be quicker/easier to have a chat.

As DEL is clearly an old fart tongue out like me hehe so we are on the same wavelength, the world we live in now all talk in MilliMetres, so I've had to translate all his sizes to be able to cross ref against spec sheets.
For posterity here they are with the new fangled stuff added ;
