Paint scrape - any tips

Morning all.

So the inevitable has happened, less than three weeks into owning the Chim - I've managed to scrape it down the side of my stupidly small garage wall. As expected, fibreglass and breezeblock don't get along very well, and there is only one winner

"How on earth did you do that?" is probably the de-facto response. Well there isn't much room, and I was looking out the back when reversing out (driving nose-in is the only practical way), when I heard the sickening crunch...

I've managed to scrape part of the nearside wing mirror, the front wing (where the back of the front wheel would sit), and take off the indicator repeater

Any suggestions from anyone, other than "You're fooked", "That was daft" or "Don't do that again"?. I'm guessing T-cut or similar won't do the business here

Mate, that's a real arse - sorry to hear it, easily done.

If it's not too bad, leave it a few days while you use it (embarrassing I know) because glass fibre has a tendency to - not sure of the word really - crack along the damage area so if you repair it too early you may end up doing it again. Not sure where you are but there are some good specialists out there that can do good repairs.

Neil, I feel for you M8. That's a st thing to happen. I felt bad enuf when the binmen scratched the rear wing of my car although it was only a light scratch but down to the base coat. I suggest you go to a reputable body/paint shop that's experienced in fibreglass body work. Can't recommend anyone to you as I'm up Norf a way from you. Hopefully ppl in your region will suggest somewhere suitable. Hope you manage to get it sorted ok.

Thanks for the advice guys; generally good advice. I'm still gutted, especially after having padded the parts of the garage I thought were most at risk - Murphy's Law!

I need to take the Chim back down to Fernhust on Saturday to get some "niggles" looked at, so will get their opinion (and likely a quote), but will try Liphook and Chips Away too.

Good luck, Brian will make sure you get the best job done, last time they were using either Liphook or a place up in Haslemere whose name escapes me.

Think Bryan has moved on now, but as far as I know Fernies still us Liphook Coachworks. Both myself and CS174 had our Chims sorted by Liphook at different times, both were top jobs, if I ever need work done on the Tuscan that would be my first stop

Heard it from a couple of the Hants guys, haven't been to check it out for myself, and if it is true I've no idea where/what he's gone/doing. As you say shame, he always had time to help out no matter how trivial.

After some twnt drove into me last year, Fernies (who I bought the car from) recommended them. Did a fantastic job.

P.s Sorry to hear to about B at Fernies, but anyone know if/who has replaced him ?
