Looking for tried and tested fit & forget adjustable units designed for Griff road use - Had honed in on Gaz Gold prof or protech, however both have come in for recent heavy criticism.

What more mainstream alternatives are there? - Not Nitron (too expensive and track bias) - AST? - Spax? - What have we?

Failures such as with Gaz are pretty terrifying and any assurances that those problems are behind them clearly lack weight until experience / time proves them to be correct -

Car is 4.3 Griff with standard wheels and tyres used exclusively on UK roads and must therefore have a set-up that can combine best comfort / performance comromises. - No rear ARB will be fitted - cost is also a factor as is an experienced specialist for fitting and all round set-up

Looks like Billsteins get good reports - is there a supplier who really knows what Eibachs to put with these and can you get adj Billies?

Other vague possibility is protech - I think AST are popular on Scoobies, not sure if they migrated as far as TVR aftermarket..

I think you'll find that the gaz problems were with the older standard dampers not the pros. I've had pros on my griff since April last year, covered nearly 9,000 miles and three track days. The dampers have been excellent. Needless to say I would have gone with Nitrons but was spending enough money on other things for the car at the time.

Pretty sure it was with the GAZ Golds and a problem long since rectified...I ran GAZ Nickels on my car for several years and they were a huge improvement over the originals, I would certainly recommend them as a budget replacement.
But, if you can stretch to Nitrons...it is worth it imho thumbup and Nitrons show there class more on uneven highways than on the track

I was in a similar dilemma last year, wanted to upgrade springs and shocks. After much deliberation I went for the Gaz Gold Pros, I had considered Nitrons but couldn't justify the extra cash as I wasn't planning on any track use. So far, about 5000 miles down the line, I can fully recommend them. A vast improvement at reasonable cost. As has been said, the problems occurred on the older Gaz shocks, the Gold Pros are not effected. However if you are planning on tracking the car regularly I'd be tempted to go the Nitron route.

agree with the Nitrons; i have them on my 4.3 Griff also no rear ARB and i use only for fast road use. i havent touched the settings since they were set up a year ago and i use the car alot on very bad uneven bumpy roads and it drives brilliantly no wallowing uncontrollable movements, i can drive it really hard without having to back off like i used to on bad roads and still comfortable albeit a stiffer ride. but then you dont get a griff for its comfy ride!

I've not seen heavy criticism of protech recently, saw one guy who had a leak, which he returned for a quick turnaround repair. He raised 2 posts ,which made it look worse. I'd go back to the poll that was done a while back and look at that
