Breaking news this morning. Nikolay Smolensky has sold the English car-making company TVR to the Russian manufacturer AvtoVAZ for a rumored £20,000,000.
A spokesman for AvtoVAZ has said that the English name would enable them to sell their own brand motors to a much wider market.
When asked about the intentions of the company to continue the manufacture of the sports cars for which TVR have become so famous a spokesman said that they would shortly be releasing details of a brand new sportscar which would compete directly with the Chinese MGF, the Japanese MX5 and the Proton Elise. It will be based on a tried and tested engine/chassis platform currently used on the Samara 1.5 which would bring the TVR marque up to date in terms of reliability and environmental efficiency.

And I trust this news has something more to do with the date than reality?

This is a rather inspired move:
- a shared sales heritage with both brands having sold strongly during the Thatcher era (with the Samara 1.5 being made specifically for the UK market) that may play well if the Conservatives come into power in the UK
- the Samara platform has a versatility that allows TVR to compete with the breadths of model that the likes of Porsche offer (from sports coupe, through 4x4 through fast four seater)
- Lada's participation in the 2008/2009 WTCC and the current sponsorship of the Renault F1 team brings a motorsport credibilty that will complement and reflect well on the TVR brand and performance image
- Lada's experience of using carburetors in emission controlled environments also offers the potential to enhance the famed exhaust rumble of a TVR with a dramatic induction sound as well.

Better get Wikipdia updated......probaly not, as it states:

On February 22, 2010, a report stated that TVR is rumoured to plan a comeback with a new model set to debut at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed or possibly earlier. Included in this report was the rumor that TVR would switch to using an American powerplant instead of an in-house built engine, as well as the announcement that the new model will be sold in the United States.[11]

Have a nice rest of 1st of Apr

No mention of the surprise launch of a new car last year? Is it actually going to happen this year?

+1 They have always been 15% above everyone else, it's not uncommon for dealers to hike up prices by selling cars they don't even have and posting them for sale at a 'hiked' price to keep residuals high.
In 2005 I was at the last stages of completing the purchase of Number 100 of the last griffs, at £29'900 I got cold feet about it's price and future value, I didn't think it would be worth 29k in five years time (2010), and I still don't think that now, although it’s not out of the question of it being worth 29k in the next five years. Fernhurst I believe would price it at 45k now!

We may find out soon enough how much they would retail a certain SE There are rumours afoot that #100 is being prepped for sale at Fernies at this
very moment (Either that or someone's seen it there for servicing added 2 & 2 and come up with 17 wink ) Watch this
space.
