vs. Merc

Just had a 2 mile ding-dong with a saucy Merc, on the A329M (dual carriageway). All very friendly, and obviously we didnt break the limit for one second. Merc came up close behind me in traffic, which then cleared so I sped a little. I eased up into a fast bend as it was a bit blind; the Merc didnt & as it passed I saw it was an SL55 AMG. Then we were both on the straight & I gve it full pelt (sticking to within limit, did I mention that yet?). Boy thos Mercs shift. Great fun !

Hope you are joking, I often play with a CLK 55 AMG and it's only half a quick as my Griff.
The Merc's a great motor but just not in the same league in terms of speed.

I think you'd be surprised a CLK55 and an SL55 are very different animals.

Chased an SL500 down last year around Sonning.. and you can tell when someones trying if you know what I mean. My 500 & that SL500 pulled pretty much the same. Today's 55AMG was a different kettle of

nope, afraid not, however, they arent a million miles off 996TT's performance wise & sadly,and from experience they eat griffs alive. I used to have a griff 500 & love em & know what they can do.

Yup there are terrific. Had mine nearly 5 years & still adore it.

Elsewhere in this community there's a but of interest in people upping the 500 ante.. supercharging et al. Good news!

Layed waste to a youngish guy in a SL500 on the A23 last summer in my Griff 500. Not very clever of course but good fun on what was practically an empty road. Don't think there would have been much in it if it was an SL55 though.

If there are any I'll see how they compare to my Griff then!! I reckon there'd not be too much in it up to 100 then there'd be no catching the Merc.

I may be mistaken by the SL55 is supercharged, whereas the CLK55 is not.

Over on M5board Lonman talks about his SL55 being supremly fast, not that far off his GT2 in terms of raw speed.

Nice sounding cars too

Although, i heard a RS6 Avant giving it some last night and damn that sounds awesome!

The current SL55 is supercharged (490bhp).

The original shape CLK55 was not supercharged (350bhp).

The current/new shape CLK55 is not supercharged(367bhp)(Remember reading somewhere a supercharged version has been developed though clearly not launched)

All with auto gear boxes, traction control and tonnes of torque.

Yes, the new SL 55 AMG is supercharged. rated at 500bhp
and 516lbft! trouble is it weighs in at 1920kgs!
I know my griff is supposed to weigh in at 1050kgs but in reality you can add another 100kgs, so do the calculations and....you don't have the power to weight in the Merc that I have in my Griff.

Would be an interesting comparison in a straight line sprint. I've had my Griff on the rolling road and it puts out over 330lb/ft and 285bhp so as it's probably around the 1100kg mark, in theory it should be quite close.

above a certain speed the aerodynamics becomes more important than the weight though. Otherwise we'd all be driving caterhams...

and also I think most griffs BHP are a little lower than 340 or 320 bhp
