Online insurance quote - TVR Speed 8

Just been on Confused.com to get a feel for prices of an impending Cerbera and as I don't know the registration you have to give car details, it then listed all possible alternatives from the TVR range.
Odd to see it offering 2 types of TVR Speed 8 a pre-1990 at 4 litres iirc and a post 1990 at 4.3.

Made me wonder why it would be there, as far as I know the Speed 8 never made it to production did it?

I might be wrong, but believe that when the AJP8 was first in production it was initially referred to as a speed 8.

I don't think that's right, the 'Speed' name in relation to engines ie Speed6 came about when PW and Al went their separate ways

I believe the "Speed" word has been used for a while prior to this, the Wedge replacement was called the Speed 8, this was a more rounded version of the wedge, smoother edges and a interior design similar to the Griff, subseqently to move with the times Wheeler decided to go for the more rounded shape, the Griffith. Speed 6 has also been used in the development of the Griff/Chim replacement that again the shape was too near to the previous range and the completely new shaped Tuscan came along.
Although the Cerbera has a 4.0 litre the 4.3 litre refers to the evolution of the V8 from 4.0 to 4.3 as fitted to the Griff. Looking at these comparison websites they really do not reflect TVR models, I would suggest that you gain quotes from the specialists, many opinions on here and some TVR friendly sites.

I did qualify my post in saying the name Speed was first used in relation to engines started with the Speed6.

The Speed8 as rightly pointed out was the softer edged Tasmin shown at the same motorshow as the Griffith which was dropped due to the lack of interest after the huge success of the Griffith.

The Speed6 replacement for the Griffith/Chimaera , which later evolved into the Tuscan, referred to the fact that it carried the Speed6 engine as opposed to a V8 of either Rover or TVR origin.

Point here of course, again pointed out above, is that the insurance company have incorrectly lumped engine sizes together and created their own name to describe them.

Oh don't get me wrong I will - the Chimaera is insured via A-Plan so will be calling them and a few other specialists. Seen one quoted on another thread called MSM Insurance - anyone know these?

The Confused.com thing was a quick way to while away 5 mins and just see what they are offering.
