Right, my car will probably need to be put up for sale within the next couple of weeks, but the insurance runs out at the end of April. So what I need to know is does anyone know of a place that can insure the car on a month by month basis so once she is sold I won't loose a years premium

Insuring on a month by month basis is expensive as there is a significant overhead in setting up the policy, much better to find an annual policy that gives you a good rebate when you sell the car.

If you are going to replace the car you should be able to suspend the policy until you purchase the new car (within a reasonable time of course).

Why ?

I think she will need the suspension sorted out (front) before I can sell her

Does anyone know of any companies that allow a good return premium for cancelling cause I probably won't be getting another TVR right now.

Explain the situation to your insurance company and ask them if they will issue you with a temporary cover note for the car. I had the same problem and my insurance co. (Norwich Union Direct) offered me temporary cover for up to 1 month at little additional cost. This is better than paying an annual premium and then seeking a refund because you will lose at least 20% - For some reason insurance companies front load the cost of insurance i.e it costs more to insure a car at the start than at the end of the year.

Am I being thick here (and there is a fair chance) but I assume you have another car?? therfore can't you drive the TVR on that policy once your existing one runs out in the short term?

You'll get a statment of your NCB along with the renewal statement, that you can use in future too I would assume..?

Cheers
Matt.

PS sorry for the inane "sell immediately" comment, I was just thinking if you shifted in the next 4 weeks you wouldn't have a problem..

you can't use the 'drive any other vehicle upto 3rd party cover' on the insurance policy of another car that you own. It is always an explicit exclusion.

Just get a policy that allows monthly payments - cancel before 2nd payment is due and cancel your DD.
eg Tesco.com

I've just been sorting out insurances on my three!!

I've put my Spitfire on a very basic cover for 3 months.
That is a classic policy with Lancaster and that is costing me £85, there is no no claims on that though.
The other way of doing it is as mentioned above, cancelling the DD when you sell your car.

Does this now mean I will be the only TVR driver in Langdon Hills

Its not that simple, they will send you a bill for the cancellation fee, if you do not pay it you may find it difficult to get insurance in the future.

For the moment a dog transporter has become a priority. I may get a MK1 MR2 for fun as well though.

I think AXA do monthly insurance, they might exclude some vehicles (like TVR's) but its worth a try.

They also do a 14 day money back guarantee which means you can cancel an annual insurance policy within 14 days and get a full refund.
