WANTED: Crashed Cat C/D TVR : T350, Tuscan, Tamora or Sag
Discussion
Have you recently had an accident and your TVR has been written off by your insurance then I'd like to hear from you.
If you can buy back your car as part of the insurance payout I am prepared to buy the car from you for a reasonable price.
What I'm trying to do is bypass the car breakers, whom add on a significant mark up!
I'm starting a major project to build a brand new one off TVR based on the running gear of a BMW 3 series (328/M3). For this I need a car as a start point.
If you can help me please email me asap. I have cash waiting.
Many thanks,
Martin

Its too late for mine as my accident was early last year but my point is as follows;-
Insurance waanted 5k buy back from me.
I said know and accepted complete cash pay out.
Later told the car was for sale at a local Breakers as a repairable for 4k.
From this I concluded that it went in auction to a Breaker for around 3k or less and so he could sell for less than my potential purchase price while still getting a decent profit.

I've recently bought the donor car from a friend of mine where he bought the car back. its ws a 328i sport and after some bargaining they sold it for £250. So he bought it back and I paid a very reasonable £500 for a car, which effectivly had a ding in the rear OS wing!
I'm hoping to do the same for a TVR with someone on PH and cut out the breakers yard. Re that chap up north, I've of cars being incomplete and overpriced. Unfortunalty there are a few people buying up all the accident dammaged cars and driving up the prices. I mean its rediculous when people are asking for £250 for a used wing cut off another car!
I had heard about someone else doing an engine transplant. What I'm going to do it replace everything! Electrics, engine, gearbox, diff driveshafts, uprights etc. This way I don't have to splice toether the various systems that are for sure not going to be compatible. This way I will save myself much of the headaches of engineering systems from new and used the best of BMW!
BTW I'll be supercharging the engines to bring power up to 350bhp!

Hi Mossy,I'm going into this as a project to first of all make a car for myself, but I am also thinking about possible small scale production of a new car. TVRs are based on sierra parts and bits and bobs from all over the place. If you start with a quality donor car (a 3 series BMW) it will make compatibility/integration less of an issue. From the point of view of development and then production a donor BMW is £500-£4000. I'm sure there are better (more traditional) engine options....there always are, but at what cost? I'm obviously a BMW fan and I love their engines. They always win award after award. Strap a nice sounding exhaust onto one of their engines and it will sound amazing! The other thing is compliance with emissions. Using an older engine means compliance is necessary with emissions for the year the engine was built.
Ultimatley the car will be a hybrid of a T series car and a BMW, but the blend between the two is not going to be known until I go through the development process.
Having worked in the kit car industry before, I'm keen to take the best bits of that industry (single donor concept) and the bits I have learnt from working for a car manufacturer/automotive experts in their field.
In my mind the only way of building cars on a small scale today (SMV), that could resale at £35-£45K is to use a donor car and reuse/recondition as many parts as possible. (the same way TVR started). I must state however, that this should not be done at the expense of style, proportion and elegance.....which is somthing the kit car industry does all too often IMHO! If successful newer/more bespoke parts could then be used in the design. I.e. progression onto BMW V8/chevy V8s or maybe even the JLR supercharged V8.
I'm keen for your views and feedback
If you want to see the concept and chat to me about it the scale model will be at ROAR 2010 (See my profile for the website link)Cheers,
Martin

Poor Peter will be spinning in his grave God rest his soul.A. A Russian building American engined TVR rip offs in Austia and austracising the TVR core market.
B. Some English bloke having a go at rekindling the TVR spirit by using the best bits of cars of Peter's era, a bit of creativity, a few German bits and some young English design flair?

If the S6 was still in production and priced right I would definitly consider it. I own a 4.0 S6 and its a unique engine. Unfortunaltey its not, and the BMW route is the cheapest most accessible donor for the majority of bits that I need. (the sierra once was the most common/popular car and TVR used many parts from it for their cars) It worked then, hopefully it'll work now!?
Cheers!

I dont see the bmw option as an obvious choice but there you go - each to their own!
When you say the SP6 is no longer in production - have you seen the TVR Power engine options...available with 5 year warranties...prices (from memory) @ £6K to £8K...ish? Check out their website.
go for it - it is your project and so you do what you want.
In terms of a market place - I dont think there is one for such a car. Wisemann is already doing something similiar (but obviously further up the price range).
You can buy a brand new Sag for under £50K through raceproved.
Modern (reworked) TVR engines are circa 400 bhp and the complete later cars are very much TVR parts through and through (not a parts bin).
A BMW with a TVR body just isnt what people are looking for IMHO. A TVR is about rawness, something a BMW just doesnt have. A TVR with an LS engine still retains much of the TVR dna, a BMW version just wouldnt.

I'm interested to understand what it is you think TVR's DNA is. Could you elaborate? In my mind using a front monted Straight6 engine with circa 350bhp, a manual gearbox would provide the appropriate power and engine note (high lift cam and straigth through exhaust of course)! Full leather interior, with funky curves and wacky switchgear, a comfortable/sporty driving position, long nose, big wheels, good firm and positive handling with plenty of feedback, ..... The only thing I want to make better is reliability and reduced maintenatnce costs by using BMW parts where ever I can.In terms of a market place - I dont think there is one for such a car. To give you an idea of what it is I'm going for, take a look at the TVR Sonitus concept. I'm using this as my inspiration:
http://www.designprez.co.uk/
I'm working with Mark to develop this design into a viable roadgoing design that would pas the IVA tests.
I've just measured a BMW 6 speed box to fit my S2 as they are cheap and there is an adaptor kit available to fit it to the 24v cossy I have BUT the box is 50mm too long and 30mm too wide for it to fit into my chassis (where it narrows down to the transmission tunnel) - It would fit by moving the engine forward by 30mm but I'm sure the handling would suffer.

TVRs are based on sierra parts
I cant think of a single Sierra part in the T-cars, and the only bits in a CHim/ griff are the hubs, and wheel bearings? and brakes from the cossyCertainly no Sierra in My Tuscan Challenge car.. the closest it gets are the rear hub carriers, drive flanges and bearings from a granada cossy
