TVR (S6) vs Ferrari 355

Out of these two which is probably the most likely to leave your wallet lighter per year?
Anybody own / owned both who can share with the PH faithful?
I was thinking about a 355 spyder/GTS before the GF got bun in oven. The thing that put me off was the servicing costs and the fact that unless you change the cambelt every weekend, no-one will buy it off you at sale time. I don't have figures but when looking at 355s, the serving receipts amounted to many thousands and in one or two cases tens of thousands in one year!!!Anybody own / owned both who can share with the PH faithful?
I do few miles each year which would be great for the 355 but they still need v.expensive servicing so I would not be getting value per miles.
Had also thought about a SAG as I just love the styling but I just know I would miss the wind in the hair experience when we have our few sunny days each year.
So, my lovely Tuscan stays and I remain a happy bunny.
Well after reading a few fezza threads the cambelt does need to be changed every 3rd year and this costs about £700 (engine in).
The "big" service is also quoted at around £800. So was thinking this was roughly the same sort of costs as servicing of a S6 engine.
Looking at the classifields you can see plenty of 355's on 70k+ miles without an engine rebuild. You don't see many S6 engines over 40k miles than hasnt had an engine rebuild.

I looked at getting an F355 when I bought mine (for about 7 minutes I think it was
). Mrs MoJo actually suggested I look at one as she knows I've always loved the 355, and when she saw that it wasn't a massive price hike to get into Fezza ownership (348 etc - she wasn't looking at model differences, just that it was a Ferrari! ) with regards the initial purchase. It's the running costs that are the killer with them.
I just couldn't comfortably afford to run one properly with the servicing costs etc, the more I looked into it the more scary it became, so I went back to my first choice of a Griff and havn't looked back since. I am happy in the knowledge I bought the better car.
Just stop dithering and get yourself a behind the wheel of a TVR.
eta Can't comment on S6 running costs mind you, not experienced them.

It,s not just the Service costs it's all the other things that will be required when it goes in for a service, Fezza parts and labour charges are expensive..The "big" service is also quoted at around £800. So was thinking this was roughly the same sort of costs as servicing of a S6 engine.

Dont expect to put it in for a service and collect for £800..
I just had my S6 serviced and MOTd ,break pads on the rear, de-catted(I supplied)and new Diff-bushes(1) and various other jobs done and collected from my House 200 miles away from the garage for £810 inc vat. And a good job they done as well. (Green Star Blackpool)
i'm afraid my comments are not of any help to you, but i still own a Tuscan and owned an F355 (Spider).
The thing is that the running costs are the real killer. Depreciation is only to ignore when you keep the car in topshape, which will cost you much more than with a Tuscan.
A Tuscan won't depreciate anymore but also needs regular servicing, part-prices are much more wallet-friendly though.
Sense-of-ocassion-wise the Ferarri (mine had Tubi's) is simply unbeatable.
If you can afford it, go for it. If you can just afford it; go for it too, If you can actually not afford it but don't give a s**t; go for it as well, you won't regret it. But in the last case it is likely that you will save on maintenance, which means you should be prepared for a big hit comes the time of farewell.
Otherwise enjoy a Tuscan, it is really very special as well.
And the design is in my opinion one of the best and most timeless ever made. My 997 standing next to the Tuscan on the driveway pales in comparison costing 6 times as much as it.
(But is there any other car that you can reliably, comfortably but sporty drive 1500 km in one day with to enjoy a convertible-vacation with the family (gf and 2 boys) in the S of France? (Ok, they flew in... ;-)
cars;.....decisions, decisions.....

This really isn't a what car thread in disguise. My budget is "only" £20k and that is no where near enough to get the 355.
I was just trying to find out how much price difference there was between maintaining the s6 and the 355.
On the fezza forum they say between 1-3k per year which is pretty much similar to the comments on here re the s6.
Obviously there have been cases with the fezz of bills for £££ but the same is the case for the s6 with it's re-builds.

You're absolutely right.
You can be lucky with Speed 6's and with a 355, but you can also be unlucky with both of them.
The thing i was trying to point out that saving on maintenance does not hurt the price of a Speed Six as much as it will with a F355.
But why are you asking if you can not afford an F355? (no offense)

Aside from the issues that have been raised here the biggest consideration for me would be ease of use. Several friends, formerly of TVR ownership bought the car of their dreams (Fezza) but then found that where they would previously use the TiV they didnt want to take the Fezza or leave the Fezza, or use this road or that road, or go out in the rain.
Personally I love the fact that I can actually use the TiV in all conditions, on (almost) all roads etc with similar performance to the other cars mentioned here.
Just my 2p

I looked into 348's before I got the Tuscan.
The service costs put me right off! My local TVR indi charges £35+vat an hour, where as the local Ferrari garage wanted around £90+vat an hour! Top end rebuild on the Tuscan is going to cost me around £2500 I would cost me that just in labour at Ferrari for the same work.

355 is a fantastic car, if you can find one with all the belts done etc, I'd have one just to have had it. The get shot.
DEEP pocket required...and still in the iffy build quality era.
Think TVR then think tens of 000's if there's a problem/major service required.
Wonderful car tho, and I guess that like Griffs/Cerbs a good one would be well sorted by now? Unlike TVRs, std is king, so maybe people daen't change from stock. Also like Griffs/Cerbs a bad one would be expensive.
Friend of mine needed an engine rebuild (light) £16k
