Gold Badges - Do they tarnish?

For those of you who have Gold front or rear badges on your vehicles - Do they tarnish over time? Do you know if they have laquer on them to protect them? Do you need to do anything to protect them?

I understand that a gilt plating will not stand up to the elements as well as Chrome plating, but does anyone have any experience of this?

I have a gold badge on the front, it's perfect completely untarnished.

Can only guarantee that it's been there for the 5 years I've had the car however.

If you polish them too much the gold paint comes off...So get the gold resin coated high spec. finish ones from Leven.
