Woke up this morning to discover the local scum had paid a visit to my Cerb during the night ... resulting in a full respray being required (every panel has been squirted with paint remover).

My question is, if a respray costs £2-3k and i claim on insurance how much is it likely to increase my premium? I know its a bit of a finger in the air question as we're all in different Insurance situations, but just wondering if any of you have any experience of this or any thoughts?

F*cking livid doesn't come close right now!

Thanks

FFS why do people feelthe need to do stuff like this! Make my blood boil!

I'm sorry fou pal i really am.

Not sure about the insurance question, although i seem to think it'll probably increase your premiums by about 20%.

Depends on a couple of things afaik
i) What no claims will you lose
and ii) what hike in rate will the insurer add.

You could go to an online site and try a pre and post claim scenario to see what premiums you get and see the % difference?

Unless there were other cars in the street damaged in the same way I would suspect you have pcensoredd off a neighbour....early morning/late night start ups scratchchin...which is worse as they are more likely to do the same thing once you have had the respray done furious

Unlikely a scroat is going to be wandering the streets with a bottle of corrosive spray just on the off chance of finding a car like yours.

If you have full NCB most insurance policies now allow 1 or 2 claims in a 5yr period without loosing your NCB & very little increase on your next renewal....best you check your policy small print!

I thought the same thing Bodmin. They've definitely targetted the Cerb as no other cars were damaged. Whether it is a pissed off neighbour or just your typical gang of wasters who spotted something different so thought it'd be cool to go back and smash it up, I dont know. I'm not sure what goes through their heads.
Pain in the arse though, as you say they could come back after a respray and do it again if it's a neighbour.

Just to be aware that if you do quotes pre and post, you may get pulled up on it as insurers share databases (to prevent fronting for 17YO on their parent's policies).

Sorry to hear about your misfortune! Really Pi$$es me off to hear about this sort of thing. You work hard to have something special, just to have some jealous **** ruin it.

It's probably a neighbour as paint stripper indicate planning. Keep an eye out, especially if you have a respray.

For comparisson, I lost an Elise in a garage fire a year ago, and my premium went from £600 or so, up to around £2k (inc proteced NCB). I ended up going with a specialist insurers and am back down to a sensible £300.

I was involved with the insurers database stuff and the sharing of info - I ran the project at an insurer a few yrs ago.
From memory it was the sharing of information to stop fraudulent claims (and possibly new business). It was not designed to compare quotes. These are standalone databases and the stored data isnt treated as customer data unless the customer buys the product (at which point the data can be shared)???

Sorry to read of your damaged car hope you get it sorted with out too much problem.

Just to add to the insurance dicussion I ran various on-line quotes with different dates for my points to see what difference it made. A few weeks after taking out the policy I had a letter asking for full back & front copies of both parts of driving licences for both me & the wife because the system noticed a descripency in the points I was adding at different quote times.

i can't see that your next years insurance is going to go up by the couple of grand its going to cost to respray the car! yes there will be an increase in premium the next time you go to insure but thats when you start shopping around for a different insurer.

Exactly - they used the quotation data post purchase to validate you. This isnt the same as sharing data across insurers.

Unfortunately I agree with Bodmin & Doogs. You car has been specifically targetted (as was mine a while back all over what I believe was a parking issue) so you should think very carefully before any outlay in case it might happen again. On the insurance point, again be aware as if you do claim it is likely they will insist on getting your car sprayed at one of their centres who may have no experience with a TVR. Your premium will of course at least double.

You will also need to research your paint colour - often the VIN plate colour is not actually the colour on the car! I would insist on using one of the TVR experts to do it rather than the insurers eurobox specialist.

Surely this was planned and deliberate. It's not like you walk around at night with paint remover in your pocket. Have you upset a neighbour?

Anyway you were asking about insurance so I've gone off subject.
